hi everyone,

i live in North NJ and have 2 kids age 3 and 4
I searched for hotels in wild wood but they r either book fo the memorial day weekend or dont have room for a single nite.
so, my question is, do u think if I drive to Wildwood which is 160 miles from my location just for a day with 2 kids and drive back in the evening? Do u think it will be too tring and it is not worth?
I'm new in Nj, i never been to Wildwood or any other touristic place in NJ in summer, but i liked the Atlantic City broadwalk when I was there in winter time.
And also I am thinking there might be too much traffic that day (29-31 may0 since many people will be driving to the shore, right? So it might even take 4-5 hours?

what do u suggest?

Thanks in advance

The traffic any day, any time that weekend will be ridiculous. Second, not sure why you would pick wildwood over say seaside or point pleasant but even those will be long drives with the traffic.

Memorial day weekend is literally CRAZY down here and even the locals do not leave the house if it can be avoided. Even in a family friendly town like mine there are still more drunken college kids than any one wants to deal with. I would suggest coming down for a day trip a different day on a different weekend or if you can swing it a weekday before school gets out.

Just for perspective I live in a beautiful shore town and for this Memorial Day weekend I am going to Boston.

I have lived here all my life. Haven't been to the Jersey Short on over 12 years. Why people would want to sit in all that traffic just to pay to go on a beach with a ton of weirdos is beyond me.

Take your kids to the Land Of Make Believe in Hope, they'll love it.

Welcome to the Land of Make Believe!

You must be a land lover.

But yeah, to go nuts in traffic and all that goes along with it doesn't make too much sense on Memorial Day weekend especially.

"If" I do visit the shore this weekend it'll be for one day and will take the train to Point Pleasant.

To You Calico and Yours as well as everyone here: Have a GREAT and SAFE upcoming Memorial Day weekend!

Actually I love the beach and the ocean, just not in NJ.

Enjoy Memorial Day weekend, and be sure to remember the reason why we celebrate it.

Okay, Okay......, let me rephrase that then: You must be a NJ land lover!

I will enjoy it thanks with minimal to no "drama", but figure too many don't know and or care why we celebrate it - it's all about the 3 day good time weekend I'm afraid.

Be well.

Make some nice day trips into NYC--the city will be refreshingly empty because everyone is out of town.

Enjoy!

i have never been to any beach /attraction/ touristic place in NJ so I dont know the difference between point pleasant and Wildwood. I picked Wildwood just because I heard about it form my neighbours and also there is a Kite festival that weekend.

I checked Hershey PArk but that one is also 3 hr drive from my house (I live in Cenral NJ- Bergen County)

Sesame Place is expensive
Land of Make Belive is too watery for my family since neither i nor my husband r water type of people. We grew up in very dry towns 9no sea no lake no river...) but my kids love to play wth sand and water, so a quite beach is preffered. But i didnt want to drive all the way just for beach, so wanted to find out someplace with an attraction such as a nice broadwalk that we can enjoy with the kids in the evening.

Have u guys been to Long island, is it different than Central/north NJ?
I am tired of riverside parks with too many bugs and muddy and foggy parks here. We visited NJBOttanical Gardens last week. After 1 hr drive i was expecting a little less than a paradise But we ended up in a palce no better than a house backyard!

You mean Long Beach Island? Ive been there plenty of times , but i don't go Memorial Day. All beach's are very crowded & its a mad house trying to drive. I usually wait a few weeks for it to settle down. If you go Ocean City there is a Train that runs form New York - Newark - Atlantic City with shuttles to Ocean and I think Wildwood. The Train takes 1.50 hrs and during the summer can be 3 hrs shorter then driving. It runs form Friday to Sunday , but i think this weekend theres an Extension to Monday , if not then you can just take the regular train to Philly and transfer to a Northbound Train. The Train has cafe & outlets?. Very comfortable seats and isn't boring. Rolling through Urban , Suburban , and Rural at an average speed of 90-110mph never gets old. Check to see if its extended to Monday , that was one of the rumors going around. Yes its operated by the Casinos / Tourism board odd eh.

Point Pleasent is almost the same as Wildwood slightly less to do , but still nice. If you don't want to Drive there is a Train called the North Jersey Coast line , you can catch that at Seacacus JCT. During the Memorial Day / Summer months the Train would be the fastest mode of transport compared to driving. Still 30 to an Hour faster , when you factor in all the extra congestion and tolls , kids under 11 ride for free on NJT. The Train will drop you off a block in a half form the nearest beach.

If you change your mind and don't want to go to the Beach you can check out High Point state park , very nice on a Hot day since its so high you break the humidity level as i call it and enter dry heat with a light breeze. Its located of Hwy 23 in Sussex County , near the Borders of NJ - NY - PA.

ACES TRAIN

Don't drive to Wildwood, its too far for just 1 day. Pt Pleasant is better for 1 day. It will be crazy this weekend, but the kids are still in school, so not as crazy as say July and August.
