My husband just started a new job in Englewood Cliffs. Currently we live in Hillsborough. I work in Somerset and will not be quitting anytime soon. So...we need to move somewhere midway between Englewood Cliffs and Somerset.

We're new to NJ (been here only since 2008) and don't have a good feel for what our options are. Looking at the map, Newark / Elizabeth / Union seem to be around halfway geographically, but I would think his commute will be longer timewise than mine (mine is the reverse commute) and maybe we should move further north, perhaps in the Orange / Jersey City area.

The other consideration is I go to school in the city on Saturdays so access to a train line is important.

We're looking for a 3 bedroom rental in the $1,500 - $2,000 range, obviously a safe and not sketchy area. We're a young family with a 1 year old, although schools are not a consideration as we will be moving again she starts school. What suggestions do you have for a town or area that meets our criterion? TIA.

take a look at Montville, or Parsippany area or Morris Plains area. You can grab 287 to head to Somerset and husband can jump on route 80 to head to Englewood Cliffs.
