Progressive Community - South Jersey
I'm moving my family from Philadelphia and would like to live in a progressive, gay-friendly community. Currently looking around Deptford, Sicklerville, West Deptford, any where semi-close to Walt Whitman or Ben Franklin Bridges. Any suggestions?

West Deptford is nice and is close to I-295 & RT 130. I have a couple of lesbian friends there and they like it. Deptford is a little too quiet and semi rural in certain parts. Washington Township is also good for being close to Rt 42 which puts you in either direction of Philly or AC. I live in Mantua which is about 3 miles from 55, 295 (and 322 for Com. Barry). Also try Cherry Hill for Philly closeness and gay friendliness. Hope these suggestions help and good luck, V

Terri (my wife's name and spelling btw),
I'm not trying to give you a hard time but there are millions of people, myself included, that take offense to the term "progressive" because it implies that anyone who doesn't agree with you isn't progressive but rather regressive, which can conjure up images of all sorts of negative connotations. It is a really condescending term. Not to mention the fact that it is a purely subject term as well. I don't agree with you that your ideology is progressive whatsoever. Would you mind just using the term liberal or left wing? Thanks
P.S. I have a few conservative gay friends. What label would you put on them? Just some food for thought.

You don't like Terri's use of the word "progressive" because you think it implies that you are "regressive" for not agreeing with her lifestyle and feel strongly enough about it to post here. Yet you have people whom you accept as friends who are gay? Not being critical, it just seems unusual to me

Collingswood NJ is close to the bridges and is very Gay friendly. There is also a train that goes right into Philly and it stops in Collingwood..a round trip is under $5.00.
And if you don't like Progressive..try Geico...unless you are a Caveman....lol
Your gay friends that are conservative...do they wear pins that say "Lesbians for Bush"?
ok, I'm really just kidding... )

BF,
Where did I say that I didn't agree with her lifestyle? For the record, one can disagree with someones particular dalliances and still like them as a person. Can they not?
My objection wasn't to her "lifestyle choice" but to her verbiage choice. The term progressive is offensive and condescending, to me.

That doesn't make any sense to me. What is progressive? Conservative or liberal? This is strictly a matter of opinion. I'm not trying to start WWIII, just giving my thought.

Does conservative mean belligerent, insulting, and rude? As a person of strong faith and someone who calls himself a progressive I find that statement all of the above. Last deer season a bunch of guys from my club donated venison to HomeFront in Mercer County, a group of "progressives" who provide assistance to families and needy children. I guess that was an example of us hating god and letting "anything go."

It makes sense to me. The OP just wants to live where people like apbvguy and his angry villager buddies aren't going to come in the middle of the night with pitchforks and torches. My grandmother always said "live and let live." She was a woman of faith...
