And you do realize that, in the stores that are open, you can only buy certain things? Go to BJ's in East Rutherford and look at the aisles that are blockaded by all that lovely orange mesh. You can buy food, but you can't buy a pot to cook it in. You can buy a DVD, but you can't buy a TV or DVD player so you can watch it. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense....
This is really beside the point. Do you think Christie should force Bergen County to open these stores despite the fact the residents of that county have clearly and loudly stated they do NOT want them open?

tahiti, I think it's nobody's business if Bergen County likes their blue laws, especially Chris Christie.

Why is he sticking his nose in the countie's business. If they want it retained, it's not his business to change it. His fat cat supporters pushing for it., I suppose.

I really don't understand how giving more options would somehow be "taking away freedom" as I have seen posted.

If all the residents trully felt this way they aren't going to be shopping regardless. So even if stores chose to open up (even though it has been mentioned stores are against this as well) they wouldn't stay open for long if no one came to shop.

Is the fear that a mass influx from other counties will all of a sudden show up?

It's a local matter, and the decision should be put to referendum by local Bergen County residents.(However there is no I&R in New Jersey) It's their county, and their individual communities. This is really a non-issue. Put it to a vote. Isn't that what a true democracy entails?

Exactly, we deal with traffic all the time. Congestion comes with the metro area.

Yep. Essex County (where I live) is almost twice as dense as Bergen County. But, no I paid a lot for my home, more than those peasants in Hudson and Essex County, I deserve the right to tell people when and when they can't shop or drive .

so you believe Christie has the right over overrule the wishes of the citizens. i'm going to use BCJ's analogy then. You wouldn't have a problem with Christie demanding a porn palace next door to your home them, after all, we're in a crappy economy and we know that porn and booze are recession proof. We need to stimulate the economy after all! (no pun intended, LMAO).

What the citizens don't understand is they have no right to tell people when they can and can't drive and where and when they can't shop. If populism dictated local rules and laws, southern states would still have the Bars and Stars on their state flags, Nevada would have "we hate Jews" stitched on their flag, etc.

This isn't an issue regarding what the citizens want, but rather an issue of not letting law dictate where and when a place can be open for business.
