I can't find it. Please show me where it is dear mortimer.
I never said there was a sane discussion.

I only said that once you travel down the path of accusing someone of
wanting to, say "move us closer to a police state" then you can't have one.

bradly is right this time;

The campaign got dirty hours after the primary battle and never stopped.

ObSarcasm:

I only watched the debates -- hoping that they would start throwing
excrement at each other. -- I would have liked that. ..... a lot!!

Bradly was not right. The campaign got dirty way before the primaries ended. How soon we forget the Martinez/Weh cat fight for the Republican nomination. It wasn't pretty, and Martinez knows how to sling some mud (as is expected of politicians nowadays).

Governor-elect Martinez received 54% of the vote.

I believe that is a majority, not a plurality.

It is a majority, and it is also a plurality, according to most definitions.

Actually the Republicans had some good gain in the state house. Well since the first time since I can remember. The republicans just don't win 8+ seats in one night. Thats big!

Well, it can work. Maybe you should move somewhere like Colorado, who has a democratic control base of the state excluding the US house. Nevada on the other hand Aries, is conservative... well, I guess you could never tell because Harry Reid stayed.

Just because I moved to Nevada does not mean I'm not a New Mexican.
New Mexico is my birthplace, and is where I grew up.

I'm going with Towanda here.

I have never heard anyone refer to a portion greater than 50% as a plurality.

When you originally posted "plurality" I thought that someone's
going to correct you, so I didn't bother ( that time ).

•In voting, a plurality is the largest number of votes to be received by any candidate or referendum.Robert, Henry M. "" Robert's Rules of Order Revised. 4th ed. 1915. RulesOnline.com It is contrasted with a majority, which is more than half of the votes. ...

plu·ral·i·ty (pl-rl-t)
n. pl. plu·ral·i·ties
1. The state or fact of being plural.
2. A large number or amount; a multitude.
3. Ecclesiastical -- a. Pluralism. b. The offices or benefices held by a pluralist.
4. a. In a contest of more than two choices, the number of votes cast for the winning choice
if this number is not more than one half of the total votes cast.
b. The number by which the vote of the winning choice in such a contest exceeds that of the closest opponent.
5. The larger or greater part.

Yes, I have seen it described as the majority, but only
in the 5th or 6th definition of the word and not every time.

Using the word "plurality" when we are talking about > 0.50000000 is just goofy.
It confuses the issue, but you like to do that and I admire you for it.

( Note that > 0.49999999 is also not necessarily a majority or a plurality. )

I'm still going with bradly here.

For the purpose of the general election, Diane was first.

I leave it to others to say whether she was worse. They were both nasty.
I didn't say that Susanna was not dirty. Like I said, I wouild really
have enjoyed a literal slinging-of-the-feces ...

I was just going to reply about Domino's post.

Diane started the dirty ads the day after election day. Which was stupid and wrong, it pretty much cost her the election.

Of course Martinez had to attack back.

A majority of votes cast, yes. But there was a large percentage of people who "voted" by staying home. They didn't think either candidate was worth voting for. Has anyone seen the turnout figures?

OK, I'm not moving from NM (not yet) but I'm happily retiring from this thread. When I am ready to move I'll probably choose an extremely liberal state like Vermont with same-sex marriage, top education rankings, health rankings, and low, low crime. Everything New Mexico doesn't have. I think New Mexico is not truly liberal or conservative, just backward.

Good luck to Susana, I hope her bark is worse than her bite. She certainly would have to try hard to drive our rankings down even further. She needs to fem up a little though, too butch for my taste.

Fem up a little? Why so we can have a Diane Denish! That is why Denish lost.

No thanks, election is done! She won by 43k, so get used to it.

Per Joe Monahan they are expected it to be greater than 600K, which seems fine for a midterm. In 2006 it was like 560K.
