When I have a hankering for tamales, I head over to Dos Hermanos in Los Ranchos de Abq.

I usually by a dozen or so, then take 'em out of the freezer when visitors come to stay for a few days.

If you are into raw chicken Si Senor in Las Cruces, NM serves it up quite nicely in their salads.

I tried La Posta en Mesilla and it was very good, I can't wait to visit "Si Senor", to try other entrees, "Bon Voyage" must be kidding about the raw chicken, Public Health will never allow it because of the risk of the Samonella bacteria.

One thing I cant stand is when people call our New Mexican food tex-mex, there is a difference, what we eat here, you cant get in other states, like blue corn tortillas, green chile, sopas, carne adovada,This is food New Mexicans have lived on for hundreds of years.

I agree that Tex-Mex food, Mex-Mex and Mex-NewMex foods are different, like in painting, there is a difference between Oil, Acrylic and Watercolor, but you can find masterpieces in each medium, depending on the artist (chef) of course.

The Best New Mexican Restaurant in all of New Mexico is
Casa De Suenos in Tularosa, New Mexico!
The atmosphere is heaven and the food is just out
of this world! Reasonably priced as well!

The next time I travel to Las Cruces, I'll make a point in going to "Casa De Suenos" in Tularusa and check it over. Thanks for the tip.

this might be a stupid question....
i love new mexican food to death esp chile rellanos and i was wondering if any chains have sprouted carrying the nm food culture to the northeast like new jersey. i have never seen one.. ive seen authentic mexican and a lot of texmex(too much) but when im craving nm food which seems to be all the time, nothing cuts it. i found this via google but it is several hours away and will definateley be used for special occasions(too far and too pricey)http://www.capemaytimes.com/Restaura...may/geckos.htm

Default best gorditas!

I have only found ONE restaurant that serves REAL Gorditas...that is Papa Nachos in Albuquerque off Paseo Del Norte. I grew up with a Mexican-national stepmother that would make real gorditas...kinda like stuffed sopapillas, but made with corn tortillas instead of flour and a "cooked so tender it pulls-apart" beef. ohhhhh...my mouth is watering!

I enjoy having Sunday breakfast at the Calico Cafe on 4th St. The portions are big and the tastes are good.

Recently, I noticed they've added a restaurant in the back called Vernon's Steakhouse. Has anyone eaten there? If you have, what's your opinion?
