My Mothers side of the family was Irish , at least I'm told. Name of Elias. Is that Irish?? My fathers side was English/German, so of course I'm a mixed breed. Don't know much about the Irish except I'm from the Chicago area which has lots of them.

May spend some time in NM in the winters soon. We'll see. So may have an interest.

Jim

There are a lot of Celtophiles in New Mexico! I know, I met and married one! Albuquerque has some Irish music groups and the Highland Games in the spring brings out the Irish and Scottish clans. You can probably find a lot of these folks by Googling. Traditional Irish Music is an Irish musician in Santa Fe, one place to start. O'Niell's Pub, is that still around, on Central? There were some Irish music groups you could find through that place, another place to start.

Have you got any more info on the Highland Games ? Ive heard Ger Carthy before, infact I was just listening to one of his albums this morning Not sure about O'Neill's. My friend tried to take me to an Irish bar in Santa Fe that was no longer around. Maloneys in Albuquerque is good though! Im still working on the Irish NM website atm. I need a sponsor to pay for hosting and domain right now. Its not much money at all really, but I just dont have the $$$ to host right now.

Hi BrianH...they used to do the games every May at the Indian School on Menaul in the North Valley. I think this past year, or past two years, they moved it to a different location (a pity, that was a perfect place w/ the big green area). I'll check my sources and see if anyone knows how to reach those people. I had a craft booth with the games one year but it's been a while now. Cool that you have heard Gerry, he's really a great guy, very friendly, has regular gigs at some cafe in Santa Fe. I think O'Nieill's is there, last I checked. Down near UNM on Central, near the Nob Hill area.

You can get really cheap domain and hosting...doteasy.com is good and has no advertisements. Or, heck, just start with a blog! That's a great way to get a discussion going and you can do a lot with a blog and it's FREE! Check out places like blogspot.com. Maybe if you get it going that way first, you can attract folks who might help host the rest. But I have a domain for something like $8 a year and my website only costs something like that, too. I forget exactly what it costs, I purchased several years at a time...but it's really very cheap.

Good luck on all that! I'll post again if I can find out more on the games.

I have not the slightest idea what "hosting and domain for $50 a year " is supposed to mean.

What I was commenting on is the different way we consider national pride from different ethnicities.

BrianH, I checked and apparently there is info on the games at these links:

Rio Grande Valley Celtic Festival & Highland Games

The Celtic Community in Albuquerque, New Mexico

I also checked again at doteasy.com and you can get free hosting if you register your domain with them. No advertising banners. I like them well enough but the email account you get with it fills up with wretched spam very fast so I just don't use that email account, only the website account.

Good luck with all of it!
