Default Silver City living

We are interested in Silver City as a place to retire to. Does anyone have information about housing/taxes/or senoir activities? Thanks!

Default A Nice Town

Silver City is a quiet small town and fairly reasonable to live there. There isn't a lot of shopping but it does have some and Las Cruces isn't far. It has a nice climate. There are a lot of churches there so if you go to church, you will have a lot of activities to do. There are many "mom and pop" type of stores still there as opposed to say large stores like Best Buy. This town reminds me more of the Mayberry of Andy Griffith type of town. I don't know about costs for housing, I think it would be more of if you can find a house for sell then the costs.

I've never been there myself, but my best friend in college was from there, and my wife has been there many times. They have nothing but good things to say about it. It seems to have all the best aspects of New Mexico (dry climate, mild weather, scenery, nice people) while avoiding many of the worst parts (drugs, high crime, extreme poverty).

Default Nice Place

My Aunt lived there for many years until she retired and moved to be with her daughter but she loved it and it has that small town quality, not too hot but not too cold. It isn't far from Las Cruces if you need to do more shopping and you can always go into El Paso for hospitals and such. It really is a great place and I loved going there too. You can go up into the mountains or down into the desert in no time.

Default Silver City

Anita,
Thanks for your info. I also think Silver City is a great place too! It is on my top ten places to live. I like the mild weather, the laid back lifestyle, the small community living and the the stars that shine so bright up in those mountains. Would you want to trade Silver City for Phoenix, where I am right now? I think the sun shines 24 hours a day here in Phoenix! Tired of all the traffic, smog, heat and crime. I wish I was up in the cool mountains!

Crackerjack,
Sorry, But I Don't Think I Could Handle The Phoenix Heat. I Enjoy The Outdoors Too Much. I Like Our Shaded And Well Groomed Hiking And Biking Trails. I Love To Sit In My Hot Tub And Look At Our Beautiful Night Sky. I Just Can't Imagine Sitting In A Hot Tub In Phoenix.

I know Anita will have more info on this being right there. When I was there a few month back visiting, I saw a vast range in prices, more then anywhere else I have visited from a 3 bedroom 2 bath being 150,000 to the same (to me) looking 3 bedroom 2 bath being 300,000. It depends on the area it seems and even then in the same area, I will see a good range of prices so if you search you will find a good deal. I like up toward the mountains myself and I am sure the homes up in the mountains are a little more pricey.
