Gilman Tunnels is off route 4 going towards Jemez Springs. Take Forest Road 485, just a short ways past Walatowa Vistor Center. After you go past the tunnels, the road turns to dirt but is extremely usable.
Its our favorite place to go, in any season. Absolutely breathtaking. Friend of mine back in Maine calls it John Wayne country.
