So the owner/CEO of my current company called today and we talked on the phone for about a half hour. Same terms, same deal, short of it will be: I'm leaving this job and taking the travel job in Shiprock, NM. I'll be living in Farmington, NM, in a fully-furnished apartment with my wife and Chow Chow, Pomeranian and two cats ( ).
I know. I told my contract company's recruiter that our two dogs can get barky and loud and he said not to worry about it right now, we can make a change later if need be, just get out here, they need you.
All right then, I am happy to get this assignment. We'll leave some stuff in storage temporarily in Coeur d' Alene, ID, until our son gets an apartment in Coeur d'Alene and then he'll take it into his apartment and we'll close the storage account out. He's already working F/T in CDA, living with us in our Kellogg house and driving back and forth to his job in CDA.
My wife and I will live in Farmington and I'll do my best and see if this would be a good fit for me in the long term. My manager and co-workers will be evaluating me, too, of course. And we'll go from there. I am really happy right now to get this and I'm going to work smart...and work hard to fit in and become lastingly useful there.

Buy a lot of formula 5000 sunblock and drink more water than you think you need during the transition period. The bright sun and arid air can damage you before your body adapts. Same for your lady. Lots of water for the pets

GregW - you're exactly right. We will drink a lot of water and put a bunch of sunscreen on. We have lived in Willcox, AZ, for 4 years before. That is pure desert there.

a good side effect of that dry air is that it makes it nearly impossible for fleas to reproduce. and ticks are incredibly rare..
and yeah, you can drive right up to shiprock from the southern approach.

Cool, uggabugga - I look forward to driving right up to the Shiprock from the south, then. That would be the natural position I would be driving towards it, anyway. Thank you for that information. The rock looks so cool. I'll be snapping away with my digital camera.

Best to check out the legality of this locally before getting into trouble for lack of a permit.
Wikipedia:
Quote:
According to reports from the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department, which administers recreational activities on Navajo land, there have been false claims that the department allows rock climbing and cooperates with rock climbing organizations. Permits are issued by the department to camp and hike in some areas, but not for sacred monuments such as Shiprock.
A 2006 press release addressing Monument Valley, another area of monoliths within the Navajo Nation, states: Reports of the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department allowing rock climbing are false. Yet several websites have postings on how to evade Navajo Nation regulations and proceed with dangerous and illegal rock climbs in [Monument Valley]. Even more serious than the possible physical harm illegal climbs could pose is the religious damage done to the Navajo people by these non-Navajo visitors. The Monuments are sacred to the Navajo people and any human interaction (by Navajo or non-Navajo) is strictly off limits. Please abide by the humble religious requests of the Navajo people and do not climb the Monuments. “Navajo law will be strictly enforced on this issue,” Parks Department Manager Ray Russell also added.[14]

Bingo, uggabugga! I only meant to come and take pictures, though the pics would be taken with my digital camera. I would think that if I'm gonna be livin' in Farmington and working at Shiprock, I ought ta take some pictures of Shiprock. I'm intrugued with it, that and that Chely Monument. I must see both, along with several others in the area. Can't wait to get down there!
