If so, where was it exactly? I used to live in Nogal and my mom took me there a lot and I thought it was on the road from Alamogordo to Las Cruces, but I was told that is not correct.
Been here since the early 60's and don't recall a snake museum. Moores trading post on 82 at about the 2 mile marker has alot of rattle snakes but that is about it.
Memory not being what it should be, I seem to recall that Bowlin's Running Indian (now on US-54) was once located on US-70, between Alamo and White Sands, and it advertised a "snake pit." Could have been another tourist trap besides Bowlin's.

It wasn't where I thought it was but that's the one! We used to go there on feeding day and even though I was a kind hearted girl, I was still facinated by the snakes eating chicks. Thank you!
