Thanks everyone. We are coming back out for long weekend in 2 weeks but think this will take a few trips for us to find what works for us since there seem to be so many options. Talked to a friend who used to live in ABQ and e suggested we get a place there for now and use that as a base to look for the "real" place. That we might be happy living downtown to close to UNM as it would be less expensive than comparable place in Santa Fe. Now we are tottaly perplexed! Will keep everyone posted. Appreciate everyone's input.

Default Modern in NM very scarce

Hello Balthus, I share your love of MCM and prefab houses like Rocio Romero in Dwell. We have a MCM house for sale in Santa Fe. totally and completely brought into this century while respecting the integrity of the 50's. Go to sellmodern.com to see it- look for Santa Fe. There is only one listing.

If you find some land and want to put a prefab on it- contact info for the builder is on sell modern as well. But be careful some land for example that is reasonable is in a flood plane and I do mean FLOOD.

Also you should know we have a new rail runner train scheduled to run to Santa Fe in the coming year. And we have a new community area with the train station, parks, an enclosed farmers market and other nifty stuff. It's a great area....called the Railyard.

Check out our house and email if interested or call Noah.

Default the Rail Yard- Santa Fe forgot to include this

Hello Balthus,
the site for the above mentioned rail yard is:
sfrailyardcc.org

AND the plan is to be able quite soon to hop on the train and go up to Taos from here and all the way to the ABQ airport!! The station is three blocks from our house and has parking. Also we have lovely community shopping like Trader Joes/Whole foods/Wild Oats/restaurants/bank and pharmacy all within easy walking distance.

I have never heard of any plans to take the RailRunner commuter train beyond Santa Fe, which they hope will be completed before the end of 2009. Socorro will be the southern terminus.

Just an FYI: Beware buying land in Rio Rancho sight unseen... to anyone. RR is a huge area, and your lot could be "unimproved," and 5 miles from the nearest current neighborhood out there. If you're looking for land near Albuquerque, you might also check out land north and south of the Tijeras to Edgewood area on I-40 east about 15-25 miles. Many of the properties out there make use of modular homes. Winter can bring mud-bog roads though, as they receive much more snow than Albuquerque on the west face of the Sandia Mountains. You'd want to be near blacktop.

Some of the South Valley areas, such as around Los Lunas may be of interest to you also. It might be wise to move to Albuquerque to see how you like it before sinking money into your dream home. Can't beat the weather though.

Default las cruces mid century

Las Cruces has some wonderful mid-century homes in town. Would love to have people buy and restore them properly. They are beautiful!
