Default Los Lunas-Is it just me?

Well, I made the move and I have to say I love Los Lunas. There is just one little problem that is driving me nuts.....

There are about 15 big dogs that live fulltime in their owners back yards and at night they bark......CONSTANTLY!

I don't mean an occassional bark at a passing whatever. They start around 10pm and bark straight thru till morning. Between 10pm and 4am, I am awakened at least 4 times by the barking and usually by 4am I give up and get up for the day.

The dogs usually quiet down around 6am. Any suggestions?

Ask the owner if there is a reason, and tell him you cant sleep. If you find him unapproachable call animal control. Im not sure if you meant 15 in one yard, or 15 over 15 yards? If its 15 in 15 yards, one dog usually starts and they all follow suit. If its 15 in one yard, then thats most likely against a City ordinance.

Animals usually bark incessantly because they are depressed (from owner not being around). Even though LL tends to be more laissez-faire than ABQ, there may be a noise ordinance you can use against your neighbors. Having a camcorder take video will help your case significantly.

They also make ultrasonic devices you can secretly install near your wall that may help.

Can you tell us more? Do the devices have a soothing effect
that shuts them up or does it make it so they are so agitated
that you get more action from the city and/or owner?

The ultrasonic devices are used for training dogs and I don't know what good they will do for you. The sound travels for a limited distance. I used them to stop my dogs from barking. when my dogs would bark I hit a button on the device and at the same time I said 'no bark" so the dogs associated the command with the ultrasonic sound that hurt them. When they stopped barking I praised them. Now if they start barking and the no bark command doesn't work I show them the device and the shut up at once.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to speak to the neighbors....(crosses her fingers).

The dogs are grouped around the street as 3,3,5,1 and 1. I didn't include my 8week old chiuaua mouse that thinks it's a dog...shhh, don't tell

I think Brian and Zoid are correct......they set each other off and whenever their own people come around they shut up, so I guess they are lonely too

If nothing else, maybe I will just get used to them

Dogs are pack animals and are just gossiping. Also as we have domesticated dogs we have trained them to guard us by barking. Continuous barking negates the warning part. Maybe the owners have night jobs and are away from home so they cannot control the noise.

I do understand the annoyance however, and suggest you talk with the owners and then the city animal control.
