I been to farmington, NM its where I was almost raised but we moved to Provo, UT. Anyways farmington is a small city, the shopping area is nothing to be impressed about, but its populated enough to have 2 walmarts in the same city.

Basically farmington is where rednecks and indians meet, and they don't get along at all. I am Native American and if you go on the redneck side of town you will get lots of prejuidice thrown at you. Especially at the fireworks store where theres rednecks talking about how they shot a duck yesterday and ran over a cat with their truck, and about how they got drunk and went to albuquercue. I think maybe there are a little bit of white supremicists here and there too. Also the police are idiots and are racist again indians.

Most of the people who live in farmington come from crime infested texas, arkansaw, michigan, illinois, colorado, and arizona. Not to mention its seated right next to the Navajo reservation which makes things even worse.

Statistically Native Americans are not the majority in Farmington, but when you enter the city statistics dont mean anything because most the people are navajo, which is good but also bad.

Yes, farmington does have 4 or 5 adult stores probably owned by rednecks located somewhere in the city, but thats really not surprising in todays world as most cities elsewhere also do. Even LDS populated utah valley has 1 adult store in spanish fork, where there are rednecks too opening their adult stores. and rednecks in springville.

By the way I live in safe and happy Provo, UT where nothing happens, and my family visits farmington, NM sometimes.

One positive thing about farmington is its food! you have to go to furrs and lotaburger, those are the two best food joints if you haven't tried it.

Albuqueque is not very dangerous,it may have more crime than the average city but you dont really see it or hear about it too much beacause its so spread out,but Farmington was the worst place I ever lived,I've only had my vehicle broken into once here and nothing other than that.I love Albuquerque.I hated Farmington the day I arrived, but I stayed 2 years untill I finally got out.I just dont see why people like that place.Farmington is truly unlike anywhere I've ever lived, and I've lived in Portales,Belen,Albq and now moving to Rio Rancho. There is just something spiritual about that place Im just not sure about. It has a certain vibe to it.Does anyone else get this out of Farmington?its like something is watching you or something like that, maybe its all the indian spirits.

I wish i only paid that much here in phoenix, a front pourch is about that much, for a 1 bedroom its between 800 1000 bucks a month.
I have read about the myth labs there, but there has to be a better side of town. It makes me re think farmington., but still going there in april to see for myself. I just want something that has a hosp for my daughter with cancer and farmington has a great hosp for childhood cancer, and low rent, i think phoneix is full of crime and gangs and car jaking and robberies, that i think its more then farmington could ever be. Not sure but its way bigger and it is rated

Once my car was hit and run and the news on TV there, with all the crime, is enough to make you freak out! There are many gang members in Albuquerque. Albuquerque does have good shopping and I love the mountains but the crime is way worse than Farmington. I wouldnt live on the west side of Farmington. I like Farmington though, it has adequate shopping, nice weather and you at least see people out walking around or biking with their families, I didnt see that very much in Albuquerque, just too dangerous.

Thank you for your post on farmington, its nice to see a postive post about farmington nm. I think some cities have more fo things them others, and maybe we all just need to weigh them out. I am scared all the time at night here in phx driving cause of all the car jackings here. I looked at the crimes rate that i posted above in another thread, showing the huge diff between the two cities. Worth checking out? wont know till i take a look

You are welcome Kalli.
I dont feel anyone watching me in Farmington like councilor j said. I know Farmington is much safer than Phoenix. I mean 3 murders for a city this big isnt bad. I would stay on the east or north side of Farmington which is much safer. Just like I wouldnt live in the south valley in Albuquerque, I wouldnt live in the west side of Farmington. I certainly feel everyone has the right to voice if they like a place or not so I appreciate all views of Farmington, I just say for myself, Farmington is a nice city and to me is much safer than Albuquerque.

kallista,
unless you want to do all the ratiio work yourself!, go to phoenix and farmington's pages on city-data.com and it will tell you the # of crimes per population.
i too was considering farmington to be closer to family in teh durango, co area. i'm in the area currently looking and have been here for about 6 weeks. thus, my opinion isnn't based on actually living here.
-i went to a "farmington mom's club' meeting and farmington was described as "redneck" and the only good thing anyone had to say about it was "you get a lot of house for your money" (i've actually found that in the dallas/ft. worth area and many others around the country, real estate is more reasonably priced) now recall, the people talking about farmington live here
-as another poster said, there are a lot of navajos here. being a nm native, this isn't new to me. however, if you're unfamiliar with navajo culture, in my opinion navajos are culturally much more reserved, with a different idea of politeness than what i have (white). i've had to keep reminding myself that no one is trying to be rude to me, that it's just a different expectation of behavior between us.
-i've heard bad things about the shcools. one woman i talked to is a teacher at one of the elementary schools and said it is very hard because many of her students don't speak english at all or are too limited to learn the material, which keeps the whole class back
-unmarried teen pregnancy is big problem here
-as for the need of a good hospital --
there is new hospital that just opened --cancer specialized. i THINK it's in las cruces (which i know nothing about) and there are lots of hosptials in albuquerque
good luck. it didn't take me longto decide that farmington wasn't for my family.

If you do look in the Farmington area, drive on Pinion Hills Blvd from Main Ave all the way to the end which goes around Farmington or drive on Foothills Drive and you will see another Farmington with large "Santa Fe" type stucco and adobe homes and where the upper middle and upper class people live, it is a nice area. There is a nice large new high school Piedra Vista on College Drive which is a very nice school. There are good and bad things in every city in America. Take Santa Fe, it is a nice city but it also has gangs, it over priced and expensive to live in, Albuquerque has crime, smog, lots of traffic, but it also has beautiful mountains, etc. You can find the bad in every city if you look for it.

I like both the positive and neg about Farmington cause i know each and very city isnt for everyone, having come from a small town in northern wis, with 5 resv all around where i lived, and bartenting there, i seen alot. As for rednecks, at times i think i am one lol
i come from a state where theres alot fo them lol
I will be up that way in april, to look around. what is perfect for one person, isnt for another. like whats junk to one person is a treasure to another. I am so county, i sure dont belong here in phx...

I did post in the post before the crimes vs Farmington vs phoenix and other places i lived like milw, new york, LA. All i care about is cheaper rent, and a nice place to live, where i dont have to pay lots fo money for milk and finally maybe get some good hamburger meat.. the meat here sucks lol

thanks for all who posted..
