Default Chimayo

Hello all,

I had heard, and read, that the tiny and beautiful town of Chimayo had,
at one time at least, the worst heroin problem in the country.

That may no longer be the case and I don't want to besmirch the good
name of Chimayo, so perhaps some updated fact checking is in order.

I thought that the town of Chimayo was the most beautiful town in
New Mexico and would move there in a heartbeat if it were not for this
problem.

Also, I seemed to have noticed that racial and cultural divides in New Mexico
between Native Americans, Anglos and the Spanish run deep and wide which
may contribute to some of New Mexico's crime problems.

Happy travels,

Mary

Several times meetings were held rather to have the feds take it over and declare Marshal Law.
People who try to tell you T or C is a nice place to live have no idea what they are talking about anymore than a person walks on thin ice over a deep pond.
You have to have had investigated it like I did over the years gathering evidence to know how deep the corruption and crime runs. Even one of their weekly newspapers gives some account of the volumes of crimes committed in the area for such low population. I can not tell you who I am because I am after all a federal investigator, but I feel I need to warn decent people to please just visit but do not move here as there are far better places to move to than T or C.
For whatever reason, this post just doesn't ring true. I call

Talking GOOD places

After hearing all the bad, I will agree that the majority of the state sucks. The only livable places are the northeast heights--and YES it's not all rich people for god sakes!--Rio Rancho for the time being, Los Alamos and MAYBE Catron county if your into the whole rustic living lifestyle. Just write the rest of the state off as crap. Day/business trips are fine, but don't waste your time LIVING in the rest unless you like rampant corruption, gangs, drug use, etc.

Tor C is BOOMING ...They just built a brand new high school. There's new commercial activity going on all around town and new housing developements with the new town of Elephante Butte. Now with the Spaceport doings its really moving there.

So my take on this poster is that he is unhappy with all the growth and is trying to scare people about moving there. Thats why he says Visit but Don't Move there. In other threads he's even eluded to Nazis, Klan, Mexican Mafia and Not one but TWO Terrorist groups there.. lol.. Oh yeah and all the dog owners turn their dogs loose at nite to terrorize the citizens....lol...

Reminds me of the Clint Eastwood Western Movie ''Fist Full of Dollars''. The Baxters on one side of town and the Rojos on the other side of town and all the poor unlucky stiffs in the middle being terrorized.

The sad thing of course is the good hard working people and business owners of T or C could suffer because of this type of rhetoric...

Default Cats, dogs, etc.

To the lady moving from MD with 2 cats, 2 small dogs and 2 large dogs.
Not to scare you BUT if you live anywhere near the Bosque, keep your cats and small dogs inside at night. I lost 2 cats so far to probably coyotes.

Unfortunately when neighbors are scanning the loop looking for their lost cats, you hear people say "heard coyotes last night".

Last time I checked, I think only allowed 5 animals in Rio Rancho (outside of Albuquerque).

THEN, regarding good, bad places to live, etc. In Best Places To Raise Your Family, zip code 87122 (Sandia Heights in Albuquerque) is ONE OF THE BEST 100 PLACES. Wish I could afford! Not outrageous but what can I say I AM ON A BUDGET!!!!!

Default Heh

Threads like this make me happy. I love it when people talk about how uncivilized NM is; how the gangs have taken over, and there's complete anarchy, and all the cops are too busy drinking to care. The only thing that's hurting NM are all the transplants flooding in. Maybe all the buzz about New Mexico's alleged "crime problem" will slow down that deluge a bit. I was born and grew up in Albuquerque and (gasp!) went to PUBLIC SCHOOL. Now I have a Ph.D. and work am a professor of physics. I didn't join a gang and neither did any of my friends. I didn't become an alcoholic or a drug addict. In fact, I'd say that my childhood was better than most. As a 3rd generation New Mexican, I take an active interst in preserving the unique beauty of this state. If you wanna fight the good fight, go battle all the tract housing in Rio Rancho and Las Cruces.

Crime is part of any society and is caused by a number of factors, including poverty, lack of education, dysfuncional families, mental illness, genetics, drug abuse, inadequate police protection, corrupted or inadequate justice systems, a materialistic society and many others to numerous to mention. Even in families of criminals some members may turn out to be good citizens. Not everybody in a city infested by criminals are criminals. Even with predisposing factors, people make choices as to how they want to live.
Transplants can have a positive or negative effect on any society, depending on the kind of people that are moving in. If we get an influx of ex-convicts, sure that the crime index is going to go up. On the other hand if we get law abiding citizens, the society is going to improve.

I've lived in Silver City for 5 years and love it here. Sure isn't any crime in the section of town I live in, (Indian Hills). Silver is the perfect town to retire in. I lived in Corrales, NM for 13 years. The village sits on river between ABQ amd Rio Rancho. Lots of crime in those cities but none in Corrales.
