Post Job Market in Alammogordo

Can anyone tell me how the job market is in Alamogordo? I plan to relocate there in the near future. I'm retired military, currently in school for Business Management degree.

Default Alamogordo = Holloman AFB

Without Holloman AFB, Alamogordo becomes Tularosa. Just about every business in town is tied into Holloman AFB. I do know some people who live in Alamogordo who do the commute to White Sands Missile Range because they can't afford to live in Las Cruces. About the greatest employer outside of the AFB in town is the call center for 1-800 Flowers.com. Most of the jobs (outside of local and county government) are service-oriented, which translates to 9 dollar an hour start pay. Even the government jobs are low paying initially, though offer greater room for advancement.

Yeap it can be tough in Alamo without a good trade skill or willing to start your own business. It's 40,000 population which is not very big and it does survive on Holloman AFB being there.

Like mike0421 said there is the Call Center 1-800-Flowers.com and also Pre-Check just moved into Alamo as they do background checks for employers nationwide (300 jobs) and now the former Sun Baked Biscuit co. that closed down and laid off around 300 is set to reopen in Sept as Marietta Biscuit co and eventually employ 300 to 400. Also the Sawmill there pays well but outside of those its either service oriented jobs or starting your own company as i plan to do after the F-22 Raptors come to Holloman in 2008......

You can call the base Civilian Personel Office at 505-572-7202 during regular hours and maybe they can give you some info.

I know that the F-117's are moving out so the base is shrinking but next year the F-22's will move in and it will expand in personel.

There are jobs in the construction sector as 900 new homes are being built over the next 3 years if any one is in the construction trade....

Thanks 6 FOOT 3, I'll look into getting in touch with the Civilian Personel Office. Maybe I can find a job listing on the web for the base, if I'm lucky...
Again THANKS!!!...
