Hello,

My husband and I are looking for a nice place to relocate. We have 3 school age children. We are thinking a suburb close to the city or a place he can find a job in the medical field, he is an RN. I also would like a near community or technical college were they offer nursing programs.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Check out Alamogordo. We have a nursing program, and a good hospital.

I think it would be a great place, some others wouldn't but everyone has they opinion. Cathy just moved here and will be posting, And there are a few others that will be moving here also. I suggest you go back and read other Alamogordo posts. Just keep asking questions..
And if you could come visit first.
Jane

I am a retired (for now ) nurse.

If I wanted to find the best city for working in my nursing career, I would go to Albuquerque. Lots of hospitals, lots of jobs, lots of positions to choose from.

Default Check out Roswell

Roswell has one major hosital and a new 'Regional' hospital. Medical care for SE New Mexico population of several hundred thousand. Might be a good place to start.

Roswell's new hospital is just amazing. I wasn't sure if I was in a hospital or a hotel. I'm sure they would be looking for a RN. The city itself is growing rapidly too although i'm not sure if i'd want to raise a family there.

Hi spindoc - just curious... why do you question Roswell's as a good place to raise a family? I do have 3 kids (16, 8 and 4) and I do need to be careful what places I chose. Thank you

I have heard some problem with gangs in the city. Usually this type of crime is connected to the local schools. SE NM is generally not the hot bed for education in NM. As much as Roswell is growing, i'm just not sure if there are good extra-curricular activites for kids to get involve in outside of school. This usually amounts to kids "hanging-out" and getting involved in the wrong type of activities instead. Of course, regardless of the school, I feel a lot of how a child turns out is related to parental guidance and involvement in the childs care. I would call the city dept. of education and get more info before deciding. You may also want to go visit the city beforehand and tour the local schools given that all three of your kids are of school-age.
Good Luck!
