Moving to Roswell, NM Where is the best place to live
My boyfriend and I will be staying in Roswell for about 6 months towards the end of October and I have been looking into renting a furnished house. I would be interested in hearing any tips or recommendations on what is the best area to live in. We are moving from San Diego so I am expecting it to be a culture shock of sorts. I have also been trying to find a gym and if there are any dog parks. I would like to make the move as stress free as possible and any help would be much appreciated.

Dear Autumnmusk:
You are probably correct about the culture shock. I have lived in both San Dieago and Roswell and know whereof I speak. While it is true that Roswell has done a good job of passing on the chance to be like California, in doing so, it has avoided Hari Krishnas, heavy traffic, bad air, valley girls, beach boys, high prices, etc. All of the strange life forms in Roswell can attributed alleged visits by extra-terrestrials. Relax and enjoy.

If you are still looking for a furnished home for some reason, we have a beautiful 3-bedroom, 2-bath fully furnished home for rent in the nice, northwest section of Roswell near the golf course & hospital. This neighborhood is Roswell's safest sector according to the police dept. and a quick drive to the Roswell Racquet Club, Target, etc.
If interested, please contact the owner, Brian Bailey via nicola_laughlin@hotmail.com.

Pull up the town paper-Roswell Daily Record. Was looking at the ads and noticed quite a few rentals in the classified ads.

ohhh! really to get a TS??? Now that should be interesting!!!
but I can't help you to find a house. I have one, not with the acreage you request, but it is currently inhabited and she is a good tenant.
There is one out on Pine Lodge Road that was recently completed and listed for sale. I will check the realtor sign as I go in to town next trip and let you know who the realtor is. Maybe you can deal with them on the lease/purchase thing.
It looks like a beautiful house, watched it go up. It is on the right or maybe more acreage you want. This is on the north west side heading out toward Capitan Mountains.

You know why there are few posts on Roswell?? Some of the aliens escaped from Vaughn where they settled and went back to Roswell to find the ones the Military captured. They haven't found them yet, so are sitting there being very quiet.
giggle giggle!!!

I moved to Roswell 3 years ago after being in the Army, and perhaps I can give you some unbiased advice. Many long-time residents think this is the best place ever. They are only partially right. Roswell has a VERY high crime rate for a town this size and some very bad neighborhoods. You want to stay on the north side of town, basically anywhere from NMMI, where I work, to the north. There are a few decent neighborhoods in the southern part of town, but they are surrounded by bad areas. The town is basically expanding northward with lots of nice houses being built. I don't know how easy it is to find a furnished house for rent. The housing market was extremely tight when we moved here and it was not unknown for houses to be on the market less than one day. I live near the country club which has a lot of nice houses and some decent looking rental places, incluiding some duplexes that sometimes come up for rent. I think the real estate agency where we bought our house has a rental office too. My biggest advice is to be extremely careful in Roswell. DO NOT buy or rent a place without knowing where it is and what's around it.

You know, that is a misconception. I have lived on both sides of town and have had break-ins on the North side, but never on the south side. The best deals are in the nicest part of the south side. When I first moved to Roswell, that was the best place to live.
You can get an all brick house with quite a lot of sq ft on the south side for at least $10,000k less than for a comparable house on the north side.
