Sorry, I am talking about Santa Fe not reporting all the crime events---not Albuquerque or the rest of NM which I am not familiar with. I know this for a fact as people I know have complained that their robbery or attack was not reported in the local newspaper and are told (by ex reporters or the police) that it is because of the fear of alarming the tourists.

It is public record...

Robbery is the last 30 days? Just one:
ROBBERY
10 Sep 2011
100 Block VILLA ALEGRE ST
Distance: 0.84 miles
Identifier: 112530178(CFS)
ROBBERY
It is public record... It is provided by law enforcement. Want to know where I got the above?: Santa Fe, NM - Official Website - Crime Reports

They have the case number if you wish to got to the PD and get a copy (probably a small charge)

You could start your own Santa Fe crime reporting blog somewhere...

A friend of my wife, who has lived in NM for 25+ years.
Says you see a lot of the.....Wannabee Tuff Guy Syndrome....in this state?
You know the type.
Seen too many movies and video games, so NOW he's a bad-ass.....especially around his friends.
Unfortunately, it isn't only NM where you find this.

The fact that some crimes result in official police reports doesn't prove that others don't get reported. I don't know one way or another, but it's entirely believable to me that police might under report crime statistics in Santa Fe (or anywhere else).

Also, searching for public records is not something most people do. The concern was that newspapers and TV stations do not report on crime, something that is unrelated to going online and searching for crime reports.

The crime reports for Gallup are pretty staggering also...a lot of theft, D&D(drunk and diorderly),assualts (domestic) and few strong arm robberies, a few drug arrests and depending on the day of the month DWI's..

I have no doubt some crimes do not get reported, especially minor crimes. I am guilty of that. I Had some minor theft which I did not report for a variety of reasons...

That is correct, you seem to not know one way or another...

Why would police under report crime statistics? To make themselves look good?

Why would police over report crime statistics? To possibly get more funding for better equipment. To justify pay raises? To help boost their performance statistics... Etc, etc, etc...

A lot of if's and what if's...

From almost all of these posts, I can see why NM continues to be in top 5 on every reputable list of the most violent states. Residents deny it, or rationalize it as being ok for one reason or another. I was hoping that there would be a growing movement for reform in the state; I can see that isn't going to happen, and that is sad for all of us.
