Pretty soon, I'd like to take a leisurely drive from Albuquerque to San Francisco.

Can anyone recommend a route that includes interesting places along the way?

What about motels?

Thanks,
Paul

Default Geez where to begin....

Depending on what you like and what general route you wish to take:

Monument Valley
Grand Canyon
Bryce Canyon
Death Valley (little hot now)
Kings Canyon
Yosemite
Lake Tahoe

Both Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly are well worth the stop. Both have nice loop drives with endless photo opportunities. If you end up passing through Flagstaff, there are dozens and dozens of cheap motels to choose from. You can drive part of the old Route 66 west of Flagstaff, stop in Seligman to check out the curiousities, and visit the Grand Canyon Caverns near Peach Springs. It's pricey to take the elevator 200 feet down into the caverns ($22 or so), but the tour includes seeing a mummified bobcat and a huge military supply arsenal hidden underground during WW2 and abandoned there ever since.

Staying in Flagstaff is a good bet. Gnubler is right-plenty of mom and pop motels there.Good place for breakfast is the Crown railroad Cafe.Great home fries! Albuquerque to Flagtown-325 miles maybe. Love the cool mornings. All in all, a real nice town;too bad the housing has gone through the ceiling, pricewise.
