Well, I hate to hear that it's being "swarmed". That's just what I want to get away from. It's not hard to find gossip & politics just about anywhere. I intend to be a part of the swarm sometime next year, just to have a look.

Koolibri_Rantšo is on a distinguished road
I'm glad btrouble52 chimed in on this. I live pretty close to Timberon, by New Mexico standards, near Tularosa. I haven't been up there since they paved the road - very mixed blessing.

Timberon shares a "quality" with lots of places in rural New Mexico. Very pretty, but isolated and virtually no employment or business opportunities. Lots of places would be nice to live at if one didn't mind the isolation and had a check arriving in your mail box every month.

New Mexico is NOT an inexpensive place to live. The ONE thing that did help "even things out" for the locals was that housing was not that expensive if one wasn't too particular. This is not the case any more. People are moving in from places like California, with their California home equity in hand and driving up prices pretty fast.

Money has always been tight. Lack of "specie" has haunted New Mexico since before General Kearney marched down the Santa Fe Trail. Jobs are few between and better jobs even harder to find. Wages are among the lowest in the nation.

If you have a suitable "workaround" for all of these problems, it's a nice place.
I've lived here all of my 52 years and still can barely keep my head above water.

Bob

Default gotta love NM

Hello Kooli
You are right on the money when it comes to New Mexicans being dirt poor while all these 'other' people move in. Tuli is a beautiful little place to live like Timberon is but....BEfore we came back to timberon we lived in Alamo for a few years where my husband worked for the City making 6.oo hr. AND that put us over the limit to qualify for food stamps. It is sad that there are so many of us natives in our 50's that even still need food stamps. They keep announcing 'high paying jobs' up there in Albq but we spent 4 months there and couldn't get a job period. Even having almost 15 yrs with Boeing. It makes me very sad that we will spend the rest of our lives being underpaid and left behind because we love NM. Look what's happened to Las Cruces, Ruidoso and appears to happining to Alamo. At least I know that with only 1 paved road in Timberon is booming but it won't be swarmed for many years to come.

(waving at Cheryl)

One of the locals told my husband that we can save a lot of money living there, because there's very little to spend it on! That sounds good to me! (although I may think differently when I can't run to Target 3 times a week! haha!)

Looking forward to some cool mountain air. There's a heat wave headed our way in SoCal. Ugh.

3 weeks and counting! I'll hug a tree for you when we arrive

After I posted yesterday about looking forward to moving to Timberon and being poor, I realized that some might take that the wrong way and I have a crazy sense of humor anyway but what I met was that it is going to be a big change. I'm gonna miss going to Walmart all the time and I'm used to hopping in the car anytime to pick up groceries or whatever so that will be a change and so will our incomes. We will be living on retirement military incomes until we can get some internet business started but like you said, there is not that much in Timberon to spend money on and we are both spendthrifts so that will be another change for us.
But we are both looking very forward to the change and being around nature, wildlife, etc.
Also looking forward and cannot wait to meet all our lovely neighbors.

Cheryl

Btrouble52 I think you served me and the lady a beer and some snacks a couple of months ago. We were up one day during the week just kind of kicking back and stopped in and visited for an hour or so.

Interesting comment from btrouble52. I just bought land there, and we intend to build a cabin. Hope our neighbors are cool. We live in El Paso, TX, but are looking forward to get away from the city and just relax...in peace. Looking forward to visiting soon.
