SANTA FE (KRQE) - Laboratory tests have confirmed the first case of influenza in the state this season, the New Mexico Department of Health is reporting.
The state's Scientific Laboratory Division confirmed the case in a young child from McKinley County.
The DOH statement released this afternoon did not disclose the child's current condition.
“Since the influenza season usually peaks between December and February in New Mexico, it is not too late to get vaccinated against the flu," DOH Cabinet Secretar, Dr. Catherine Torres said. "I am advising all New Mexicans to get a flu shot to help prevent the spread of the disease."
