I prefer summer (ok, enough with the boos, hisses, and catcalls).

Fall I'd enjoy more if it wasn't a harbinger of winter.

Anyone ever try watering their plants before a freeze to avoid freeze damage? Would that work here to extend the growing season a bit?

I agree with you. I love the heat. Even in the summer sometimes I have to cover myself in the house so that everyone else is comfortable. You wouldn't think an old fat lady like me would get cold but I do. They've tested for thyroid but nothing is wrong.

Phawk57: Do you consider the winters in Alamogordo cold? We didn't even have what I consider winter (I've been here only 3 years) until this last winter. I actually got to wear a coat!

Zoid: Your temps over this next week (70s/40s) look perfect. I've never heard of watering plants to protect from freeze damage, but.....

Depending on what said plants are, I'd just cover them up or move them if possible.

We are getting down into the upper 30s over night .. no freeze yet.

Days are in the mid-60s. I think this is the PERFECT weather!

Yes I do. I have lived in North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Minnesota(2x), Iowa, Illinois(25 years) so I know what real winter is. I have also lived in more temperate climates and they are much preferable. I loved Okinawa but I hated Florida(too much humidity) I have always hated winter. When I was 10 I went sledding with friends and couldn't believe that they did that for fun. UGH It won't be too long til I start wearing a coat at night and a sweater in the day. In the summer I sleep with at least a blanket and sometimes a couple. My legs ache with just a sheet. I love Alamogordo especially when it's warm. If I do get too warm(rarely) I just get into a cold bath and cool my core and I'm good for hours.

You certainly do! Ouch.

If you like hot weather, though, you are certainly in the right place as far as New Mexico goes. Hobbs/Carlsbad tend to be a little warmer than we are here, but not by much.

FWIW- Temprature on deck was 29 & 32 the last two mornings. Covered the plants to prevent freezing.
