Why Tucumcari
OK, none of my business, so I won't ask. :-)
The newer sections of Tucumcari homes will be found on the southside, near I-40 that bypasses the city.
It's a pretty quiet little town...much quieter than in previous years when Route 66 was the main street. Like so many other similar communities, it fell on tough times when the traffic stopped coming through, especially for the motel, and restaurant trade.
The first day you get to Tucumcari...go to Del's Restaurant at the east end of Tucumcari Blvd. (Old 66, now I-40 business.) It's been around since the
50's, and still serves good food.
Good luck in your move.

And here's what you're going to get for radio reception in Tucumcari...
ttp://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/locate?select=city&city=Tucumcari&state=NM&band=Bo th&is_lic=Y&is_cp=Y&is_fl=Y&is_fx=Y&is_fb=Y&format =&dx=1&radius=&freq=&sort=freq&sid=
KTNM 1400AM and K-QUAY 92.7FM are the local stations. 1400AM is a mixture of classic country and talk. 92.7FM is Bright AC type stuff
They're 2 pretty decent stations
Don't depend on any off air radio reception except for 92.7/1400 around the clock, 770 KKOB from ABQ by night and some Mexican stations at night.... anything else will be spotty at best reception wise.

Sadly, you are right. I know there is a 50,000 watter out of Amarillo and several classic rock and country stations in Amarillo. Do they reach out there? Albq, is 180 miles away, Amarillo about half that much. Still is a nice town, though.

The only way to get an Amarillo FM in Tucumcari with a reliable signal everyday would be to install a rooftop directional antenna, but thatis very possible.. and lots of people, in ruralareas do it.
I highly doubt you would be able to get any ABQ stations except 770 KKOB.

How about 98.5 out of Santa Fe? Oldies format. When I have gone to Albuquerque to visit friends, I have been able to pull that station in until I get 35 to 40 miles south of Farmington, which is 160 miles away. The plus on that station is Bobby Box. His morning show is 6 to 10 a.m. but his oldies show rocks! I've blown my stack on other threads about the same songs on oldies, classic, country, but Bobby throws in a lot of songs that should be played that sadly aren't. I know him personally from the record shows that are done in Albuquerque. OOPS! Straying off the subject-oh well!!

car radios are ALOT more sensitive then home radios
Ithink that on anaverage persons home radio.. clock, boombox, stereo tuner in the living room.. 92.7 and 1400 will be about it.

Satellite Radio, CD changer, mp3 jukebox...
or forget it. You could try Clovis, there is a lot of stations to pull from.
Check this site out everybody:
New Mexico Radio Stations, New Mexico Broadcasting Stations, New Mexico Web Radio - SHG Resources
Get a good antenna, pray, and oh by the way, Coast to Coast AM with George Noory is essential to get out of the humdrum of mundane radio.
New Mexico stations that carry it:
COAST TO COAST AM WITH GEORGE NOORY: AFFILIATE LIST
Texas...
COAST TO COAST AM WITH GEORGE NOORY: AFFILIATE LIST
Colorado!
COAST TO COAST AM WITH GEORGE NOORY: AFFILIATE LIST
Texas college radio listings...
Texas Governor Rick Perry - Texas College Radio Stations
enjoy!

Again, Clovis is possible....but when I refer to stations you can count on picking up, im talking if youre simply using a clock radioor something cheap.... most people wont invest in antennas on their roof, etc

Another 50,000 watter is KCKN in Roswell, maybe 2 hours drive from Tucumcari, is a Country Western format. Every other song is 50's and 60's country. 1020AM. Last year it had different call letters-KINF and a different format. I live west of Grand Junction, maybe 650 miles away and can pull it in on the bedroom radio. The old format was cool because you would hear in this order songs by U-2, Sarah Vaughn, Buddy Holly, Stan Getz, Frankie Laine, Kinks, etc. A varied format to say the least but still pretty cool.
