All depends who gets to host but even then I think the Title game draws good numbers..
I will try and find the numbers for the title game between Las Cruces vs Mayfield...I'm pretty sure that is the attendance record for a title game.

Yeap the host school/city and matchup would have alot of determinig the attendance. I wish we'd do what they do in other states like in Texas the Titles are held in Texas stadium (Dallas Cowboys) and next door in Arizona they have them at Sun Devil stadium (ASU). If i remember correctly in Florida they were held at the Citrus Bowl (Orlando). I've E-mailed Gary Tripp (NMAA Executive Director) in the past about having them at UNM Stadium or Aggie Memorial Stadium and he said the Universities were against it and yada yada yada....

I think turnout would suffer at a neutral site. And how often does an Albuquerque team make the finals?

I think Las Cruces would be the best place to draw a crowd...the only thing is the city is not centrally located. However, I think attendance would suffer if played at a neutral site. I like it the way it is.
I think the 3 Las Cruces Teams, Roswell, Goddard, Clovis, Artesia, and Lovington have West Texas like followings.

I know that Gallup has a decent team but does anyone know how good they really are? Who beat them and how close do you think the game will be when they play Cibola in 2 days

Not to be advicating ABQ as i'm from Alamogordo/El Paso but i do think the state basketball titles that are held in the ''Pit'' are very siccessful and exciting to the High School kids so i'd think a kid on 2A or 4A or 5A Football would really dig playing at UNM or NMSU stadiums..
In El Paso some schools get to play regular season and playoff games at the Sun Bowl and the players are just stoked about it playing in front of 20 to 25 thousand...
Anyway good points.....

Albuquerque just isn't as into high school football as the smaller towns. There are more entertainment options. Yes it would be great to play in front of 20-25,000 people, but it would be pretty sad to play in a nearly empty stadium. I'm a long suffering Aggie fan, so I should know.

Albuququerque is starting to really change that label about how we arent as in to football as other parts of the state. I agree yes alot of the time southern states are better in many cases but that to is giong to change. Rio Rancho, which is basically Albuquerque is really into football Cibola has practice from 2:20-6:30 everyday Manzano and of course La Cueva are very into football. I just dont see where that piont about the South always being better than the north is giong.

I did not say southern schools are better, although arguably they have been. However, they do attract larger crowds. I have been to some high school football games in Albuquerque and find them poorly attended. Given the large population in and around Albuquerque, you would expect comparably larger crowds. I don't have attendance figure handy, but I recall that Cruces and Mayfield averaged about twice the average attendance as the better Albuquerque schools a coulple years ago. I would be curious to know what the average attendance was for La Cueva home games during their two year reign as state champs.
This is no knock on Albuquerque, just different interests and priorities.

I get what your saying. La Cueva always attracts high crowds. In the season opener when they played Cibola Wilson Stadium was packed!!!For the past two years Cibola has had extremely high attendance. Places like West Mesa and Rio Grande havent had such high attendance numbers this year. It depends on the school and how good the team is.
