Hey Danielle,
I am in the same boat as you! I will be a college graduate in December with a degree in Criminology and Law...I'm packing up on my last day of finals and moving out to Santa Fe! I can't wait! I'm moving from Boston! New Mexico is one of those states where you either LOVE IT, HATE IT or Slowly begin to like it! I LOVED it and can't wait to go! I don't have a job lined up nor do I know what I want to do but i'm slowly figuring it out! Good luck!

I just read this thread. Congratulations on the job! My very first year teaching was at a reservation school. Unfortunately we couldn't live out there because of my husband's job, so I had to commute back and forth every day--an hour each way. The drive was a pain, especially with all the snow we had that year. But, I adored the first graders I taught!
Unfortunately I didn't feel the same about my boss. The principal made things difficult for everyone. No one was happy with him, and he was forced to quit the year after I left. Shortly after that, they shut down the school.
I have so many happy memories of that time though. I would have loved to have lived at the school. If I ever got the opportunity again, I would do it in a heartbeat! I am originally from NM, although the southern part, so it wasn't quite as different for me as it will be for you coming from the east coast. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Let us know how it goes once you get there.

GregW continues his quest for employment/lifestyle ideas:

You are all set with gold and platinum then?
Do you know about Nambe?
http://www.nambe.com/Shop/SearchResults.aspx?line=Metal&page=1 (broken link)
You can't help picking up Nambe items and fondling them.
I thought of another idea for you. There are lots of small winerys
in NM that could provide you with a nice, rural lifestyle and lots of
gadgets that need fixin' and maintenance.
Like a nurse, you can pretty much work anywhere.
(I saw on the news last night that three hospitals have
over 100 open requisitions for Nursing positions.)

Do YOU mean to tell ME that you have never heard of Nambe?
Oh thou leadest a sheltered life!
If you lack self control, never set foot in a Luz De Nambe shop:
328 San Felipe St NW (Albuquerque)
3107 Eubank Blvd NE # 22 (Albuquerque)
< or the >
Nambe Outlet Store
924 Paseo De Peralta # 7 (Santa Fe)
And many other places with "Nambe" in the name. You can
easily do some serious damage to your budget if you like the
cold, shiny metal candle holders, bowls, etc.
If I'm with my wife, I try to distract her by simultaneously hitting the
gas and pointing in the opposite direction "is that a deer dear?"

Mortimer~ Your wife and I think alike .... and you are just too much like my husband in your reactions when near the Nambe Store in Santa Fe.
I have been collecting Nambe for many years. It's too expensive for me to get large pieces or even many small ones, but I have some nice pieces that I love.
We gave my son and new daughter in law a Nambe bowl for their wedding in September.
I may just have to revive my nursing career.....since I am wanted .... and I could buy more Nambe. (Everyone wins! )
