Cathy ~
The Nambe store in Santa Fe has a section in the back where they sell seconds. That's where I head for a good buy!
I can never see anything wrong with the seconds .... a little mark here and there only adds to the patina of the piece, in my opinion.

But thanks for the information, Towanda!!
I have always heard of Nambé pottery, but didn't know that they also have such gorgeous flatware.

Only know two people
My best friend's neice worked on reservations for years as a pharmacist. Loved it. That is how she saved and bought a gorgeous house later on in life.
My other friend moved here to NM from another state and started teaching in the Albuqueruqe area - poor area. She was concerned that the students (elementary) sold each others supplies constantly because their parents could not buy them. Hardly any parent participation. Parents had substance abuse problems, poverty, etc. Then moved to Rio Rancho school systems and was amazed how the parents showed up and basically interviewed her when they learned their children were in her class.
Personally I would not be a teacher in FL or in NM. With the kids I have met recently, I would not last a day. It is a gift to be a teacher and you have to have way too much patience now a days.

Cathy,
The main product for sale in the Nambe stores is not pottery, but the metal alloy bowls and platters and candlesticks and vases. That's the stuff they are known for.
I have not seen a lot of flatware in their stores either, but there sure seems to be a lot of it on their website.

The website is the problem. It's WAAAY too easy to order online and have it shipped to me.
$55/place setting? And I need 8-10?? Ouch.

College Level Teaching Opportunities
I'm thinking about moving to New Mexico and wonder if anyone has had experience teaching there at the college level. Was it a good experience? Is the pay good relative to the cost of living? Where would be good places to look?

Back to teaching and working in the schools in New Mexico, are there opportunities for linguists and Native language study and preservation?
