I know UNM is not a city or town, but I know a woman who went to UNM and instead of calling it University of New Mexico she called it University of No Money(UNM).

When some relatives were driving across the country to visit us, they said they'd call us once they crossed into New Mexico. When they called they said, "We're in Ratt-en" instead of pronouncing it "Ra-tone." I've also heard out-of-towners pronounce Belen "bell-in."
