Sorry, I know this is an old thread but there is no gun registration in New Mexico.

A lot of guns have been registered when they were first sold but heirloon antiques probably were not. I have heard the federales have been trying to get all the old sales registrations into a computer data base but I expect they will be as good at that as FEMA was in New Orleans.

Please Remember that responsible gun control is:

Pick a legitimate target and hit it with the first shot.

Why would you want to?

Do you think it will be illegal?

In New Mexico, generally "It is unlawful for a felon to receive, transport, or possess a frearm. Felon is defned as a person who has been convicted of a felony offense by a court of the United States or of any of its states or political subdivisions; and less than ten years have passed since the person completed serving his sentence or period of probation for the felony conviction, whichever is later; and the person has not been pardoned for the conviction by the appropriate authority; and has not received a deferred sentence."

I am not an attorney. If that weapon is used in a crime, can you be convicted of a crime? Aiding and abetting? Hum....

More to the point, how would you know? Unless you're a gun dealer, you
can't run background checks, anyway.

True, very true.
Wonder if they are trying to buy one or sell one?

My guess is buying. The so-called "gun show loophole" has been exploited for
years by former felons to evade the background check. It has also been used
by perfectly law-abiding citizens who want to retain some semblance of
anonymity from government oversight.

As far as I know, there is no verification burden placed on private sellers but
that doesn't mean that there is not a legal requirement placed on buyers although
that may not be honored in the breach (Sorry, couldn't resist.. )
