Pitbulls are very loving dogs. I have a "mutt" (pitt and lab mix) and also owned a full breed pitt before(she is now at my boyfriends fathers house.) and she looks scary and like she is ready to attack, and she sometimes catches me off guard, but she will lick someone to death before she hurts anyone. As long as they dont view someone as a threat(meaning someone breaking in to the house or trying to hurt them) they arent going to hurt you. Pitbulls are very curious playful dogs and when they see an animal they just want to smell it and if you dont allow them to is when they start barking alot.(and their bark is worse than their bite.) My "mutt" now lives with 4 people and 2 cats, and has never but a scratch on my cats, or even attemted to hurt them, she gets along with everyone and even the stray cats outside. So next time you are outside and they are taking there dog for a walk(leashed of course) try walking up to the dog calmly and petting it. Once they smell you and get to know you they wont seem so aggresive anymore.
Yeah, that saying is appropriate anywhere, anytime.
