PANAMACALLIT wondered aloud:

> I've Been Looking To Move Into Pecos, Nm Since It Is In
> The Middle Of Santa Fe And Las Vegas.

Pecos is many tens of miles away from Las Vegas.

> I'm moving from Alabama to work in Las Vegas, NM.

Why add an extra hour or more of driving to your day?

> I'm 18 hours away so it has been hard to find a place
> to stay before I get there.

Why not just move and stay in a hotel for a week?

People are always posting to these boards about how important it is
that they find the perfect place to ***live*** before they arrive and
in many cases before they have ever even seen the place.

I've moved many times and stayed in a hotel to try to figure out where
a good place to semi-permanently locate. Remember; it is not just the
cost of the hotel room. It is the cost of the hotel room *minus* what
you would still have to pay for the rent ($20-30 per day). What is the
cost of getting stuck in a lease in a location that soon after turns out
to be undesireable for some reason or another.

ObPecos: Even if you just love the out-of-doors and hiking, Pecos
doesn't get you that much closer than you will already be in a small
town like Las Vegas.

Many motels and hotels offer a substantial discount for weekly and monthy rents. find the Las Vegas chamber of commerce web site and use the links for info on local hotels. then you can take some time finding a really good place.

Thumbs down Stop!

Don't move to Pecos. I've lived there before. I lasted all of one year. The people are to united. They don't like to let newcomers into their area. I'm hispanic and the area is mostly hispanic and I hated it. They're very backward and closed minded. They have on small local grocery store that charges 3$ for a loaf of bread. No one is friendly at all. I really tried to communicate and nothing. They don't want to be bothered. It's mostly family that live there. It's corrupt as all hell. It's a beautiful place, that's why I did it. But boy did I ever regret it. The school (ONE SCHOOL) is way behind others. Just think about it before you do it. Have a good one!
