What can be said about the La Luz community ? Good or bad , I would like to know. Ironman

Darn. I was hoping this was a thread about the La Luz trail.
I had to look up where this is; about 3 miles N of Alamogordo, it is.
If you are driving from Alamogordo to Cloudcroft, you pass within
about a mile of La Luz.

La Luz is north of Alamogordo. Quiet little town, and depending on where you want to live it can be either up La Luz canyon, in the village or out further in the desert. There is a Post office, church, mini mart/gas station and thats about it. Its close enough to Alamo to do your shopping. The highways do not go through the town.
I have quite a few friends that live there.

Overall nice as about 500 population. Reminds me of a little Spanish town back in the 1800's west. |

Thanks for the La Luz reply people. It is definitely quiet and and small. The early
western spanish look is something else. Will be moving out to Laborcita Canyon this Dec.
Time cannot go by quick enough to get there. Ironman.........

Iron man, congradulations on your move. Just wondered why you chose Laborita Canyon for your home. I imagine it will be off the desert floor so you will have a little cooler weather , but with different plant life and animal life compared to the desert. I am kind of considering the same thing. Climate between the desert and the mountains would be perhaps the best kind?

Dear Iron Man:
My money is on La Luz, or at least on Laborcita Canyon. Just made an offer on a home there that is spectacular and reasonable. It seems cooler and quieter in the canyon than either Alamogordo or "down town" La Luz. Good hunting.

Is Laborcita Canyon in the direction of High Rolls (east) from La Luz? High Rolls/Mountain Park would seem an ideal location to me.

Does anyone know the elevation of Laborcita Canyon. Is it in the 5-6000 ft range. That would give it a nice climate. Out of the desert category.

New Mexico magazine did a piece on La Luz a couple of months ago. I wish we had visited during our last trip.
