We enjoyed staying in a hotel one night on our way back home from California. The big attraction I understand about Deming is the weather and the abundance of water underground. The town was hopping all night, so the next morning when we went down to check out we asked what the attraction was and why all the activity. I think this was back in 1990. Seems it is a tourist town and a Winter home for many. We were told of a river running under the town.

It's not really an underground river which you can walk to, it's an aquifer, an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock or gravel, sand, or silt which groundwater can be extracted using a water well. Deming and its surrounding area is said to have an aquifer of good-quality water which is slowly recharged primarily by water from the mountains to the north.

Well, we're here! Its been almost a month. We LOVE it here! It seems everyone is very friendly. The weather is great. Love the wide open spaces. Got pulled over by Border Patrol the other day, that was kind of interesting, we looked suspicious. Anyway wouldnt trade it for anything.

John, I was hoping you might be willing to help us out on Deming move. We just moved to NM, Elephant Butte to be precise. It is our starting point. We have a decent income and work from our PC(s) and are currently in our 40ft RV in a great park. My doctor advised a westerly move from OH to a much warmer climate.

We love EB... BUT what we are looking for is a smallish house (for us) with enough land to have a small "ranch" (Chickens, goats, a cow or 2 etc) 3+ acres would be ideal. Outside of the city is a huge plus.

Since you recently were in the rental market, I was hoping you could let me know if you had/have seen anything that might work for us.

Thanks in advance!

Well, wellcome to NM! We found our house on Craigslist, which you might have already have thought of. There were some nice rentals out of town but were too far for us, we needed to be close to town. We also checked with the realtors in town, some of them manage rentals. Hope you find what you're looking for!
