Has anyone mentioned Casa Suenos in Tularosa yet? When I lived in La Luz, I could not get over how lacking the restaurants in Alamo were. Yet, right outside of town lies Casa Suenos, which I thought was excellent.

This is a good choice to eat at.
Sounds like we are going to have a chile cooking night sometime and see how we all fix the food. I will be hoping to learn something.

Is that burger place still on White Sands BVLD? I want to say Bobs Big Boy Burgers?
Also did the road get moved, because I dont recall the road being like this before.. ( Google Maps )
Also in that picture is the food store I was asking about in another thread.. the one with the red face on the left of the road in front of the park.

Is Bob's Big Boy Burgers connected with Kip's Big Boy Burgers? There used to be one of those here. Their double burgers were unusual in that they had a thin piece of bread between the meat patties.

Maybe you are thinking about Hi-De-Ho Burgers? That's been around in Alamo forever, and it is a great place for a GCC.
As for the aerial imagery, you just uncovered an error by the Google employees. What you just saw is called a 'mosaic' error. When a group of aerials are merged, its called mosaicking. It's a very mathematically intense process the computer has to undertake, by merging tiles of aerial imagery together. Where they meet at the edges is sometimes very difficult for the computer to permutate. Because when you are using a 2 photograph, in reality, it's not square, where as in the imagery it is. Theoretically, it's a square photograph. However, the earth curves inward from the equator towards both poles. So, in this case, north of the equator, the top of the picture would be slightly less distance horizontally than it would at the bottom. This is where mosaicking becomes necessary, and if the aerial imagery has suffered a post-processing error after the flyover, such errors can and do occur. Now, imagine having to do this on a national, and global scale, as google has. Moreover, these images all come from different sources. The same airplane did not take the same images throughout the nation. Google cobbled it from many sources. That's why when you zoom out to national level, you will see differences in resolution on state levels in some cases. And, in almost every case, when you zoom in to the city level, there will be a dramatic loss in resolution between city borders and adjacent, more rural counties. That's due to the size of the budget that each government entity has. This is all very difficult for Google to pull off, but somehow, for the most part, it happens. You just happened to uncover an obvious error.
As a final note, nearly all these mismatched images you uncover will have errors from east to west. Mosaicking is much easier to do north to south, as the geography is more consistent this way, because the 'squares' don't shrink east to west, only north to south.
This is probably way more than you bargained for in terms of a response.

The sign you described sounds like Blake's Lotta Burger.
Very good green chile cheeseburger, that....
I liked it better than I did Hi-Di-Ho. That place looks exactly like it probably always has, 1950s-style!
I'm being virtuous today, and eating at home like I know I should........a homemade wrap, turkey breast sandwich with all the veggies...
