I am a senior and planning to visit Silver City and Carlisle,(which I believe is a ghost town) to do research as my Grandfather lived there in 1890. I plan to get a greyhound bus from Phoenix to Lordsburg and return the same way, is there a bus service from Lordsburg to Silver City or can I hire a car/taxi, also are these towns safe for Senior Citizens to walk in.

I'm not sure about what kind of transportation is available between Lordsburg and Silver City. How are you going to get around after arriving in Silver City? Do you plan to visit Carlisle? It is (as I recall) accessible from Duncan Arizona. There is not much left there. The two downtown Silver City main streets are safe to walk at night as they are lighted. Most anyplace is safe daytime. I also am a senior and live in Silver city.

I could not find any information about transportation between Lordsburg and Silver City.

You might look at these two related websites, maybe make some calls or send some e-mails:
Silver City/Grant County Chamber of Commerce: Official Web Site for Silver City and Grant County, New Mexico, presented by the Silver City - Grant County Chamber of Commerce!

Silver City Website: Official web site of the Town of Silver City, in sunny Grant County, New Mexico.

Also:

Greyhound provides bus service to towns on I–10: Las Cruces, Deming, and Lordsburg (no service to Silver City). 575/524–8518 in Las Cruces; 800/231–2222 for all other destinations. www.greyhound.com.

Silver Stage Lines provides shuttle service to Las Cruces and Silver City from El Paso International Airport. 800/522–0162.

Las Cruces Shuttle & Taxi Service makes regular runs daily between El Paso International Airport and Las Cruces, Deming, and Silver City. 575/525–1784. www.lascrucesshuttle.com.

Roadrunner Transit operates public buses in Las Cruces. 575/541–2500.

Lenwat - Buy a smaller used motorcycle like a 400 to 600 CC twin and ride to the area using secondary roads. Then you will have some way of getting around.

Now that's really great advice for someone who has already stated they are a "senior citizen" and inferred that they cannot drive, hence the need for public transport.

I would advise to look at transportation from Deming or Las Cruces instead of leaving the bus in Lordsburg. Lordsburg is the smallest of the three, and Las Cruces is a city - not a town - and should have more options to choose from.

Arrival into Silver City is primarily by private car, though a shuttle service runs once or twice a day from El Paso and Las Cruces (call Las Cruces Charter & Shuttle Service at 575-525-1784 or toll-free at 800-288-1784).

Corre Caminos Transit should have a shuttle service from Lordsburg to Silver City. Their phone # (575) 388-3180. Their prices are very reasonable. Good luck.

Corre Caminos Transit, another outstanding Chamber member and business in Silver City, NM!

You might get more input if you posted on the New Mexico forum, rather than Las Cruces. Lordsburg/Silver City, strictly speaking, are not Las Cruces topics.

Moved to "New Mexico" forum. Will be visible in the Las Cruces forum for one month (I think).

I think there is not any bus from Lordsburg to Silver City . So you have to take a taxi/Car.
