I live in Las Cruces and I haven't experienced any of this un-friendliness or terrible customer service. I'm sure I experienced more in Santa Fe when I lived there.

I believe that friendlyness comes witht the territory. I grew up in Tularosa, NM. A small town where everyone is either related to each other or know them very well. Alamogordo, just 13 miles south, you will find people to be friendly as well. Las Cruces, an hour away, you will find more of an attitude or crabbyness to "outsiders." I believe in college towns you find more of that attitude when more 20-somethings come in for just a little under a year the same time every year. That does seem to stress out people bringing in more and more traffic and causing congestion on busy streets. A faster pace of life means get in and get out. But for the most part, I believe New Mexico is a very friendly place.

I live in Southern NM and trust me everybody here is laid back. No we are not likely to bring a new neighbor a tray of cookies, but we do mind our own business, we are usually pretty patient, and people are usually family oriented here.
We are very diverse in the way that Hispanics/Mexicans, African American, Asian, and Caucasion all eat, breathe, and sleep the same way! The poor white family lives right next door the the poor mexican family and the rich white family lives right next door to the rich mexican family. |

I live in LC too. And I agree. Except I never lived in Santa Fe. All I can say is that people pretty much do their own thing anyway and really dont care what your doing LOL.

Like folks in most small communities in the west, people in Las Vegas are a bit taciturn but generally friendly. The "stay out of my business and I'll stay out of yours" ethic is still strongly ingrained. (Though gossip is still a primary form of entertainment, like in most small towns) So folks tend to be wary of people who are talkative or who disclose too much too early. Friendliness is more expressed as watching out for each other. Could fill this forum with astonishing stories of this ethic in practice.

Deep, unrelenting, unfriendliness can be encountered at the Las Vegas Motor Vehicles Dept office. You will never have the right paperwork with you on your first two visits. If you are the only customer in the place, the wait will still be at least an hour- the one person who can do your transaction is at the doctor-
A lot of us have learned to use the Mora MVD office... worth the hour round trip. |

We have MVD Express in Las Cruces. I love that place. I would never go to the state office. Even when I went the first time and didn't have all the paper work, they were very friendly.

Thats good to hear they are in Las Cruces.Too bad all 50 states won't allow the private sector to do this. I refuse to go to the state MVD after going to MVD Express. Good job Janet Lucero (owner).

Las Vegas has an MVD Express, and they are great... but unfortunately they can't process driver licenses. No escape...
