Love the laid back feel of the town. Of course, the scenery is beautiful and the climate is highly desirable. I have visited Silver City since I was a kid (a looooong time ago). I suppose the only negative is that it is such a remote location. Still a drive to Las Cruces or the airport in El Paso as well as Tucson.
I retired at age 55 in 1992 and my wife and I moved to Silver City. We really like it here because of the weather, scenery, history, and the very friendly people. There is crime here but I do not know if it any worse than other similar sizes cities. We do not worry about it but take normal precautions.
I LOVE Silver City and the surrounding area. We moved here in Nov. 2011, and are here to stay.
Not sure I would call it that remote as its only 2 hrs to Las Cruces, and 3 to El Paso.
The Walmart here is the worse one I've ever been in. Best steak dinner is the Friday night steak feed at The Gateway Grill in Hurley. One of our favorite lunch spots is Adobe Springs Cafe.
People are very friendly here.
The only downside I have is the fact I live way out in a canyon and have no cell phone service(I can live without a cellphone) and have Wildblue for internet, which I hate.
