I didn't see anyone answer this and while I don't think it will be the "hottest job market in the country" if there is an industry that is going to bring jobs to the metro right now it is bio tech. We have a pretty strong base in biotech and the right conditions are forming for it to go big (lots of start ups forming, lots of patents coming out of UNM and other companies). I think if one of these start ups goes big AND decides to bring those jobs to NM rather than relocate there will be a really nice snowball effect.

It could also turn out like the solar industry has, where it was looking promising but the economy changes and the companies seem to have stagnated or gone out of business.

For Southern New Mexico there is the spaceport and an aeronautics industry, but that is looking less promising every year.

Haha spaceport, I remember canvassing for that in 2007.

Southern NM also has the new Union Pacific facility under constuction, coming online in 2015.

I plan on moving the NM in the future. Can't right now, but as soon as I can visit and check it out in person, I'm serisously considering moving there...

Last thing ABQ probably wants is another Ca transplant.....

I did hear that Rio was the hot spot to go to a few yrs ago... don't know if it still is, but the simple fact that is was makes me wanna not go there......

I wasn't aware that people are leaving New Mexico.

Seems like I continue to meet a lot of people who are newcomers to the state -- and most of them could not wait to move here.

That means you are getting old and notice the rise

Also, new ownership and corn being diverted to create fuel raises the cost of beef...

According to the latest migration data from the Census Bureau (2011) ACS

In 2011, 61,431 people move from New Mexico to other states.
In 2011, 62,130 people moved to New Mexico from other states.
Net migration to NM = 699, which is within the margin of error, and certainly doesn't indicate people are leaving NM.

Default I moved

After 5 1/2 years I left Albuquerque for Prescott AZ on Jan 1 2013. My reason for leaving was I had enough of the big city and it's no secret that Albq's drug and crime problem is getting worse. I really missed the hospitality of small/medium types towns. It wasn't so much a job thing for me but more of a desire to live in a more normal environment. Good luck Albq........
