As for long term effects, they are minimal. You just can't be poisoned by something non-toxic. It is almost always grown organically: no toxic fertilizers, no pesticides as few bugs like this plant. In few cases where bugs ate plants, they controlled those bugs by using ladybugs. Obviously, they don't use weed killer.
I think a very slight IQ drop may be possible, but probably less than the 8 points some antis mention. Not sure how many if any lost that much. One explanation might be like when drinking alcohol, one might not pay attention so much, so less is remembered. It's not a poisoning thing. Cannabis is non-toxic. I know of a retired Harvard prof who has been using cannabis for decades & studying this plant since 1967. Now he's mid-80s & his encyclopedic knowledge is still intact.
I read of a woman in India who smoked it daily & lived to 120+. A great many have used it regularly since late '60s or early '70s & are still in good health. Over 1 billion have used in since Genesis, with no proven deaths as a direct result.
Most studies were done as favors to the $2 trillion a year pill industry. They had sole rights starting 1976 to decide who got money to research cannabis. If they wanted to try to find something bad about it, they got the $500,000 or more per study. If they said they wanted to find good things about this plant, research money was denied. As a result, about 94% of studies might be considered defective.
Pill cos. used to sell cannabis oil in pharmacies until as recently as 1937. But they realized they could make more money if they instead sold people multiple patented (synthetic) drugs.
In non-smoking residential buildings, it would make sense to allow vaporizing which has no smell. Or to allow smoking it on balconies, if they have balconies. Of course, this permission from building owner is only a possibility where medical or general use is allowed by the state. Vaporizing is heating to below burning temp. Cannabis oil is concentrated extract that can cure many cancers & other fatal illnesses. Should people who want a better cancer treatment be called criminals?
So, the reason it is illegal is not medical but financial. Since 1970, pills have killed about 8-10 million Americans vs. 0 for cannabis. Right now, most can't legally choose. This may change. Best wishes.
