Depends on what's really important to you. I've lived in both LC and Carlsbad. Unless you plan to be a hermit and cook all your food at home, choose Las Cruces. There's nothing in Carlsbad but the caves, wind and sun. You'll get tired of literally no place to buy a decent t-shirt or pair of shoes, nor a decent restaurant meal.
Cruces will seem small enough to a Jersey couple, but it still has what most people consider the minimum amenities.

Default More Future in Las Cruces

I don't think there's much comparison between the two, no offense to Carlsbad! But Las Cruces offers so much more in so many areas. Not only does it have so much more now, but I do think in the future that you will see passenger rail service between Las Cruces and Albuquerque.

I don't mean to hijack this topic, but passenger rail service between Las Cruces and El Paso should happen before service between Las Cruces and Albuquerque.

Default Is Roswell real conservative?

My family and I are strongly considering a move to Roswell. We will be visiting before we make a final decision. Is it a good town to raise kids? We are concerned about how conservative it is because we are a lesbian couple and currently live in eastern Colorado which is very conservative and we don't want to move where it's going to be just as bad or worse.

It is very conservative in all of eastern NM just like eastern Colorado as the whole region is. It's next to West Texas and Oklahoma which is highly conservative.

Santa Fe and Taos are very liberal as are areas of Albuquerque and Las Cruces and Silver City is moderately liberal too.

That being said i believe folks are less concerned about those issues as i never hear or read about gay people being assulted or attacked in NM.

New Mexico as a whole is a Moderate state.
