I did a Google and I see the Desert Sand is near the Highland theater. Is the Highland still open? Also I see the Desert Sands is on a haunted places website. It might be cool just to stay there for that, lol.

The Hiland is now the (very nicely fixed up) headquarters of a dance program for kids, but they still have events there from time to time.

Sadly the Hiland is not showing films anymore, but it is definitly being put to good use.

Many of Albuquerque's traditional (older one-screen) movie theaters are still standing, but in non-cinema uses.

I would love to see No Country For Old Men at the Lobo Theater for example. I have some great memories of seeing movies there.

According to Wikipedia, part of No Country for Old Men was shot at Ghost Ranch, in Abiquiu. I was there yesterday and took the picture below. Another film was being shot there (The Ridiculous Six with Adam Sandler) and closed off the trail to Kitchen Mesa which we were planning to hike. So instead we tried a new trail called Matrimonial Mesa, and it was spectacular. We could see where the film crew had parked but we never saw or heard the action (thankfully). It was blissfully quiet.

Went to Big Bend National Park in Texas on vacation this past week. Could tell that just a bit of No Country for Old Men was shot in that area, around Marfa. In fact, the natural shots from that movie, also the location for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (both great Tommy Lee Jones films) made me want to visit Big Bend National Park in the first place. No Country for Old Men is one of my favorite movies ever (and one the best two or three in the last ten years I think) and Three Burials is my favorite Tommy Lee Jones movie. No surprise so many people want to see the scenes where those films were shot. Stark, desolate, and lovely.

What river was the dog chase scene filmed in?

On a similar topic the TV show "Longmire" was filmed in New Mexico. I noticed the Hotel in Las Vegas when they were doing scenes with the "Sherriff's Office". It was canceled but has been picked up by Netflix.

I read that it was filmed on the Canadian River near Las Vegas, NM but now I can't seem find that information on the web anymore.
