Default the cave (hole in the mountain)

Here's a great photo of the inside of the cave/mine.
yes, am so glad we have a 4x4 now, we can go places inaccessable by 2 w.d.'s, it's a blast, even if crawling over big rocks.
I always thought dukatt was sort of a wild and crazy guy. his shop is soooo mod. and outasight.
yeah, if you're sick of denver man, you guys gotta move.
we broke out the kingsford and burgers today, what a treat!
next time wife's off, we're going to go check out the new bridge for the spaceport access road. will we drive the bridge? maybe not, we'll just drive thru the arroyo.
phone still ain't working, new modem? supposedly sent today, 50 bucks.
if you come down again, do you have a laptop w/wireless? before phone line gets fixed. they're saying 2 weeks. email or dm me.

Yeah, that Trader fella looks like he is about to melt down big time...hope there are no dangerous weapons in his proximity! Dukatt is a total riot, in stark contrast, and only about a block and a half from the simmering hot Trader. Can't imagine how these polar opposites avoid terminal collision?!

We had a brief but very saticfying sojourn to Southern NM. Buried my favorite cat on a mound that serves as his pyramid! Ate well and visited interesting shops. LC was fun as well and the road through Hatch was beautiful. My stress level over this crippled hand and my cat's demise was nearly erased...at least for a time! Looking ahead to a one way trip south...

That shot is just too cool my pal!

I LOVE CAVES AND MINES!!! Where ever we travel I frequently inquire about the local mining efforts and naturally occurring cave systems. REALLY looking forward to doing an extended, light-hat tour of Carlsbad someday soon.

When back in the islands we used to explore the huge lava tube complexes on the Big Island. Some were miles long!!!! We encountered ancient Hawaiian burial sites and occupation sites on occasion! So damn cool! Kinda scary too...but that added to the enjoyment of the adventure

Glad to hear it, dracul. That is a very appropriate burial for your cat, since the Egyptians, known for their pyramids, honoured cats so much. I hope you hand is coming along well. I can't wait to tour NM again on my bike and see Socorro and Magdalena, among other places.

I wouldn't call it yuppie. We have people from allover the u.s. here. They all bring their own talents and uniqueness. There are many artists and musitions of all kinds. We have concerts, golf tournaments, rodeos, bike rallys, boating, fishing, rafting on the Rio Grande, also we have a movie theater!

I live in T. or C. also and there is alot more than drugs here, too bad you can't see it. If you can't see beyond the town itself and enjoy the beauty all around the place any direction you look you must have scales on your eyes.

I remember when I was still a cop in Hawai'i and we were experiencing the influx of crystal meth in Kona more than 20 years ago!!! I believe this was coming from the Philippines at the time and then became "home produced" along with the powerful pakalolo (marijuana) that became so infamous. Hawai'i was one of the first states to experience this continuing scourge.

i kept hearing 'dukatt' mentioned, and thought it sounded familiar--

keep in mind these pictures are from 2001.

i always liked T or C, went there at least twice a year from 1993-2002 to visit my dad at the NM vet's center. i used to love to go to that neat little restaurant in cuchillo with the cool old bar next door but heard they're both closed now - that right?

That's dukatt's old place before a drunk driver ran into the corner of it, after the driver remodeled it, dukatt had to re-remodel it, and it has a somewhat different appearance now.
there's many places closed now. coffee t ro c is closed, big a burger is closed, the old sonic is closed/torn down last week, sonic relocated closer to the interstate (exit 79), cafe rio is closed, black range motel is closed, bel air inn has new owners and have remodeled and now are non smoking room rentals, I could go on, but it would be pointless. new businesses have opened, and I guess they're trying to clean the city up a bit. kind of wished they'd plant trees where there's gravel/big rocks in the median strip on date street, they're doing something with it now, but am not sure what.
if you're referring to that little place on 52? that was all but wiped out in the flood rains 2 years ago, as were many places in hatch. we visited hatch a few days ago, and we learned that some 300 hatch residents were forced from their homes during the flood, some people are still living in FEMA trailers down towards rincon. hatch is sort of back to nearly being normal now. there's some structures pending tear down still. mutz.

wow, i didn't know there had even been a flood. sounds like there have really been a lot of changes. right, the location on 52 is the one i meant. since people often start websites and fail to update them, can you tell me if this is current?

it says they relocated to broadway. part of the charm of the old place [to me anyway] was the fact that it was so isolated; the old place was tiny, with seating for maybe 10 people, max. but i hope they're still in operation, whatever the location. their food used to be very good.
also, the cuchillo bar looks like it may still be holding on- at least they have a website up. i hadn't realized the building was that old [1850!]
The Old Cuchillo Bar and Museum Near Truth or Consequences New Mexico Located in Southern NM - a very old western bar available for the movie industry as a scout location in NM
