TorC sits nicely between Two rather nice colleges; one in Socorro and the other in Las Cruses...not walking distance...but within range of a nice bike ride!!! Old Hippies??? Not really. More retirees and absentee owners with second homes and RV's/boats/etc., than any hippies I've seen. The area is poised for a boom I think. Nascar and the Spaceport could help to transform the county...not necessarily for the better I'll concede. I like it. Not Kona...but not all that dissimilar either in some respects. Both are water rec based communities offering similar features and amenities. Kona is warmer but TorC has a mild and even climate affording year 'round access to the water. Not too many humans and that is always a major selling point to me!!!!!!!!!!!

Well it's not turned yuppie yet and I doubt that it will ever happen. There are
plenty of old hippies in T or C and if people here havn't seen them they must
not get out much. Most of them are fine but many lack any ambition which is
probably why they chose the anti establishment life style. There is a college
to the south and to the north in Socorro. Each is about 75 miles from T or C.
and with gas at $3 plus it gets slightly pricey to go down or up and hang
out at the U. I have several friends that decided to go back and take a class
at NMSU and ended up moving to LC. I guess it all depends what you are looking for. If you want laid back and easy going T or C could be the place.
If you are looking for a acdemic type of crowd to hang with it may not be
the right place. If you like to fish I'm sure it's a great place because of the
lake. Also T or C seems to go to great lengths to resist change. This could also be a plus to many folks but for others it might drive them away. The jury
is still out on the racetrack and the spaceport. I think most people I have talked to in Sierra county think it will do little more than a lot hype for the county but I think that Dona County could do well from the spaceport if it
ever happens. It comes up for a vote in two or three months in Sierra county
so time will tell.

Are you looking for a job or are you retired? Also we seem to have a lot of
drifters coming thru town right now. Hopefully now that the spaceport has
passed costs of houses will escalate at a very fast rate. Many of us are
trying to turn a profit on our houses so we welcome newcomers with
some bucks.
