It's a small town. Close to Elephant Butte if you like boating or just want to be near a lake. The scenery is nice.

T or C, what to expect...hmmm. Lots of white people, hot, very low median income. The populace in general does nothing but do drugs. Hope that helps.

Just applied to the Sheriff's Dept. for far less than half the $$$ of what a similar position pays in Denver...but I don't care. I seek a scaled down semi retirement anyway in a much smaller town.

In a small town, there is a strong likelyhood that you can walk to work. Not having some 20-mile commute automatically adds $5,000 to your take-home pay, so you can discount the Denver job by $7,000-8,000 in pre-tax earnings.

Your point is well taken Mort. Along with a little ingenuity, a couple of side gigs and my art... it's worth a roll of the proverbial dice, whatcha think effendi!?
On an unrelated note: broke up a cat fight between my beloved huge male and another neighborhood rival and I took some deep hits to my right arm this morning at around 7 a.m. Never could have anticipated how much damage a pair of large tomcats can do to a man's flesh but they really routed me out. Can hardly type. Can't bend my wrist either with all the swelling. Had to separate these felines to avoid costly vet bills...but now it seems it may be me on my way to the doc if this injury doesn't heal. I've cleaned the wounds, several scratches and some deep punctures, iced them, lightly exercised (ROM) my wrists and elevated my right arm. Took some anti inflammatory medication as well...but the swelling has spread to my wrist as of this writing. Hope one of these little savages didn't leave me a nasty infectious parting gift! Damn this hurts....

Dracul, you must see a doctor! Often cat scratches (by their dirty claws) or deep puncture wounds can cause very serious infection. Please do not wait.......I know someone who did wait and ended up in the hospital on I.V. antibiotics.

dracul: Ouch! Sorry my little furry brothers inflicted pain on you. I've been scratched and chomped on so many times I've lost count. I keep fresh hydrogen peroxide around for such events...it's always worked so far. Cats don't fool around when they get into it!
mortimer: I think you're on the right track. Not having to drive makes more sense every day. I used to ride my motorcycle just for fun; now I do it to save money!

If your arm is already swelling and painful, I don't think hydrogen peroxide is the answer. See a doctor and get on antibiotics, pronto.

Dracul, GET TO A DOCTOR, MAN!!!!
Last Feb. my wife did sort of an unthinking grab of our cat to stop a fight over a food bowl. OUR cat (who sleeps on Mom every night) turned and chomped her on the top of the hand as well as scratching her on the arm. She immediately came inside, we cleaned the wounds, paying special attention to the 1/3 inch long bite on her hand, wiped everything down with alcohol then dressed the injuries with neosporin and bandages. By 2 pm the next day (two days before a flight to Mexico City) her hand looked like 5 sausages stuck on a boiled ham. I took her to the emergency room and within two hours she was in a bed with IV antibiotics in her arm. She was in the hospital for 6 (six) days and ended up being seen by a wound specialist from El Paso who ramped up her medication big time. The infection was in her bloodstream. Luckily our cat has had every imaginable shot, but the hospital had to report the injury and now Chatito has a police record. So much for college.......
Of course she couldn't fly to DF, so I had to go alone (business trip) while her sister flew down to take care of her.
When she got out of the hospital she had to soak her wounds in Epsom salts every 6 hours and take mega-antibiotics orally for 10 days. The infection cleared up but she was almost 6 weeks recovering from it and regaining full use of her hand.
So....GO TO THE DOCTOR OR EMERGENCY ROOM. Now.

I got one of those on my leg. I'd get rid of that particular cat, but my wife ...
At the moment of the attack, you barely feel it. Later, infection sets in.
You're lucky you didn't get it in the eye.
Breaking up a cat fight? Not smart.
A squeeze bottle full of water is the ticket. Never stick your body in there.
Bad Dracul!
