Got some bad...but not unexpected news from my ortho specialist: looks like the mitt will need surgery after all. Seems the scar tissue has hardened into stone and is preventing proper nerve/tendon function. Bummer. Not too keen on going under the knife AGAIN (it will be my 8th procedure!!!). Way too many injuries as a result of living my life in a tempest Think I'll get the MRI and seek a second specialist's opinion. My right hand is essntially my life...so any slicing/dicing leaves very little margin for error. I'm a little afraid to resume tattooing at this juncture but I've some recent requests. Small projects that I hope I can do even with this damaged hand. I would be lying if I were to say I'm not somewhat anxious about picking up where I left off...when I was whole. Now I feel strangely incomplete and inadequate, despite recent efforts at extreme fitness training and dieting. Though my right arm has become hugely strong (I can curl 130+ pounds with one hand!), the hand is still inhibited and is very clumsy. I'm having to relearn to use this appendage with its more limited ROM. It really gets to me sometimes. But I'll never give up, and the knife may be inevitable...again...alas.

Exclamation Wanted ! 4 wheeler partner/pardners

I live in T or C, have a 4 wheeler (jeep) and I'm losing my 4 wheelin' buds from california, and have not found anyone locally to (pal around with) for 4 wheeling activities. NOTHING EXTREME! just mild mannered and low key discovery trips to desert and mountainous areas. areas of interest include, and are not limited to Cibola and Gila National Forests, Soccorro county, Hatch, Rincon, Caballo, White Sands, and BLM lands, for expeditions/excursions for quartz/rock/fossil hunting, and of course prospecting. DM me or make a post here. you should have an able 4 wheel drive!

Smile No Yuppies, But A Long Winded Reply

No yuppies at all. (well, maybe a couple) Seems it is turning back to some sense of (dare I say) "normalcy".
we, (me good wife, and I) have lived here now for 3 years and 3 months, and we've seen the stranger than strange come and go. mostly this time of year (nov., dec.,jan., feb.,) are for the disabled and retirees escaping the harsh winters of the northern states. the people here seem normal, but, during the summer months, it seems that some of the strange people come here or end up here, or, the once normal people have had too much sun. BTW, the weather presently is glorious, daytime temps in the mid to upper 50's, and the best part of all, no snow.
In the past couple of years, several businesses have gone out of business, either due to retirement, or, they just couldn't make it with the economic environment. three businesses (keep reading) which have gone out are Domino's pizza, and the Pixie store. We have the remaining Pizza Hut, ( a 3 ingredient pizza will cost you $21.00 and some change.)
We have the Hilltop Restaurant (dick chen - chop chop's) place, the cafe rio went out, and Big A Buger, a town fixture of T or C was closed after the untimely death of it's owner in a automobile accident, but we still have an assortment of about 4-6 restaurants and other stores including a new denny's, 2 dollar stores, IGA, Bullocks, a new NAPA auto parts store plus autozone and carquest, a new walmart, burkes variety factory outlet, many second hand variety stores, and a host of hotels/motorlodges. we haven't acquired any new rv parks, or stores on a grander scale such as home depot or lowes, but it's only a matter of time before these make their presence known. Things are looking more postive for T or C as time passes by. Sierra county is now host of the Spaceport project, and possibly the newest site of a NASCAR sanctioned race facility.
We have many auto/truck/rv repair facities, some of them are Monette Ford, Whitehead Chevy/GMC, B&B Mobile Home Repair, Sierra Towing & Autobody, McNeils RV Repair, and, the areas across from our new walmart are under development for future strip malls.
So, T or C is not going to end up being the ghost town, which many might have believed (including myself) would be. T or C has the small town feel, but is progressing, perhaps the seat of Sierra County is truly becoming the "diamond in the desert"? as hoped to and planned.
Part of the reason a person might feel that hometown thing is because art galleries and craft stores have wide open doors during good weather (warm temps), jams on a street corner (that's right folks, people jammin' in the streets here) guitars, violins, tambourines, slapsticks, banjo's, what can you play on a street corner? it's here.
Plus! low crime rate. Plus! the rio grande and scenery galore. hunt, fish, camp, rv, hangout, visit our local retailers, art & crafts, the great southwest is here, and the high desert, mountains, lakes, rivers, wilderness, Geronimo Indian Museum, are awaiting your arrival.
Don't forget, Elephant Butte is the only one of it's kind in the entire world. A volcanic dome in the lake.

If there are any yuppies here in T or C they must be hidden very well but who
knows? I was told yesterday that when and if the TV transmission repeater
goes out there will be no more free TV (rabbit ears) in T or C and we will
have to buy cable or Dish. Also if you want to be near a college influnce
it would be better to move to the town with the college. I havn't met to
many folks here that even went to college and most seem to put down
anybody with a college education but that's because they never attended
anything above high school and many never completed high school. There
are plenty of old hippies here to go around and for those that never see them
they might be living under a rock and just drove thru. I will say however
that many of them are nice people only with a few exceptions but most are
completely against any type of progress. Also another bulletin and T or C
is no longer a real cheap place to live and I still know quite a few long time
T or Cers that are getting ready to move. I know at least three people
who are moving to Arkansas or Arizona. Chances are if you are a person
who is used to many of the conviences of a larger town you may find
T or C hard to get used to as the driving to the nearest city really gets old.

My mother has lived there for nearly 20 years and thoroughly enjoys it. I think it must be a rather laid-back place from how she describes it. There is some crime, but that's everywhere these days.

I would consider it a decent place to go to retire or get away from big city living. You are far enough, but not too far from, some larger cities. At least that's how she describes it.

nobody4now is on a distinguished road
I moved here from Albuquerque 3 months ago. It's been extremely difficult finding good paying employment, the multitude of slummy RV parks and trailor parks are depressing to look at, theres very little cultural diversity here, most of the population are senior citizens, the food here is bland compared to most of the state, perhaps due to an elderly customer base, people ARE grumpy, theres definately a drug problem, specifically crystal meth, gas stations charge noticably higher prices for every single item they offer, and the main street linking t or c with williamsburg is strewn with closed storefronts. the only fun ive found is shooting appliances in the desert with my guns, and its been work keeping the appliance population under control, lol.

Im really down on T or C right now. I moved here 3 months ago from Albuquerque, a city i genuinely fell in love with after being born and raised in the southeast. T or C is my first exposure to New Mexico apart from Albq. and its been really a let down. While Albq offers incredible food ,a diverse, integrated culture, and a distinct, very pleasing architectural design sense i have found T or C and connected Williamsburg to be practically a RV and trailor park slum full of old white people and crystal meth addicts. Theres very few minorities here and their absence lends to the overall bland, lawerence welkish atmosphere, if lawerance welk were a vietnam pillhead.
