Default The Bad Thing About

The bad thing about T or C, is that it is highly underated as a small city. People who've lived here, or live here now who may not like it due to one reason or another and make posts in which they degrade the city, and attempt to sway a person's opinion about visiting or staying here for any length of time, by making derogatory remarks about it. I almost wished City Data had a separate page, so people who can post positive things about cities in general in a positive manner. granted, city data has a page dedicated to information about the city, populations by ethnic backgrounds, elevations, weather patterns, and just generalizations, but sometimes people want more information than what the one page reveals. in one post, a person painted the town as having a bunch of white haired white folks living in drug infested rv parks, and gloom and doom, and this simply is not true. if one goes to the dedicated page, they'll see the average age group of residents is 40ish years of age. and these 40ish year olds are not cooking up or consuming meth in trailer parks.
I thought one day I would walk through town while I'm still able to do so, and photograph some of the fine businesses established in T or C, and give descriptive analogies of each, and this would be a time consuming effort on my part.
To put things in perspective, every city, town or village does have a populous of undesireables, every town. some cities have more than their share, especially in areas with larger populations, there's no way to avoid it. I was in fact irked by someone posting lies about T or C. as I have absolutely no interest in the city whatsoever, am not a business owner, nor do I own stock or real estate here, it bothers me that someone who just dropped in here from a town of hundreds of thousands of people can critique a city which is about 2% the size of duke city. It isn't fair play. Since I've only lived here 3 years with my better 1/2, we have a handful of friends, most are stationary and not other campers, they're not on drugs, nor do they get drunk, they're just normal people. yes, we have met some wierdos and some strange people here, but I've come to the realization that I could find these types anywhere.
What attracted me here? mainly the climate and the scenery. am I content with my move here? yes. we could probably reside in a better community, if we had more $$$. the quality of life here is ok, the prices are fairly reasonable, and the city just suits us. we don't know, and we do not care about real estate prices because I know I'll never be a homeowner ever again, unless I win a lottery. yes, about the cheapest way to live right now is by owning a rv, and paying lot rent and electric. we're used to better, but we have adjusted to what we can afford, and we are comfortable, and that's all that matters. everyday, and anyday, I can step out of my humble living quarters, and see sunshine, blue skies, mountains, and more if I want. and, you just can't beat that. it has the small town feel.
Friendly people? I guess they are. I've never had a problem with anyone here, except for once. and that's water under the bridge. if you or anyone want's to know about one run in with a business propreitor my friend and I had, DM me, as I won't post it here, it wouldn't be fair.
I've uploaded a few photos of a nearby place to T or C, it's of historic nature of the town of Chloride, an old silver mining town not too far away.

I was a Pallbearer for a couple of Funerals there about 20 years ago and havent been there since but i thought the people were very friendly and the town was a nice quiet town that i thought i would like to come back and visit. el pintada kid

Cool pics, and not bad banjo either. Next time I'm in NM (hopefully this spring) I think I'll take a trip through Chloride and Winston.

Default winston & chloride

When visiting, bear in mind that the monte cristo saloon and dancehall, and the pioneer store were rebuilt and restored with private funds. the state of New Mexico recognizes the historic value of these relics, but not enough to fund any of them.
Don't want to spoil your visit by telling you too much, but the pioneer store has most of all the original fixtures, cash register, scales, mining tools, and so forth. a ledger is still there, which the store owners used to keep track of supplies, foods and tools/materials, which were paid for with silver found/mined by the people who worked the hills/mountains.

The town was whacky and charming as ever with its castaways, hermits, hippies, oldsters, druggies, burn-outs, wash-outs, punks and ultra right-wing klans-men! What a mix....and I love that guy who cruises around with that large stuffed toy over his shoulder! TorC rocks!

The natural setting looks great. In the last photo on the ghosttowngallery.com site, the occupied house is very attractive. I like solitude! Very nice pics.

We had a nice repast at the Pacific Grill two nights ago; the decor is cheesy but the mahimahi tasty! We missed the Bella Luche (sp?) on Jones street but we've been told its pretty decent Italian fare.

Hey PK, wazzzzup? The roads were real clear and snow free so we just smoked down I-25; missed the burgers I'm afraid but put away away some mahimahi, steaks, prime rib and pasta along the way! We hit LC, Hatch, Las Vegas, and Santa Fe as well. Buried my cat on our land and bought a custom tie-dyed t-shirt for my pit bull at Dukatt's crazy store. Didn't have lots of time but we fit in lots of stops! I drove over 1,300 miles one handed in five days!!! Whew!
