Hello. Well, up to a point I agree. But I would add there are also quite a few "white" lowlives too, in my experience, and such cultural boundaries are quite blurry and in large part individual as well as part family, ethnic, geographic, class etc. (I'm not saying you said otherwise BTW)

And many poor people do believe in self improvement (which can be defined in many different ways of course), and some rich are the opposite too. -I think that depends and varies widely based on many things.

I would say it's just a matter of degree in terms of both belief and ability, -and how one defines the term "self improvement".

-seldom purely black and white, but rather mostly shades of grey. That's all. And that's just my opinion.

zachsak is on a distinguished road
I have lived many places and honestly Alb is the ugliest city i have seen. It could be beautiful, with the rio grand and the sandias surrounding it, but the people are what ruin it at ever turn. The garbage is everwhere in this city, the houses are shacks, the yards are unkept, and the building look like they are from mexico. The worst part is the people. I have never met so many angry people in my life....i think i am becoming angrier the longer i am here. I cant go to the mall without at least 5 people looking like they want to kill me. The gang/drugs/crime is the worst I have seen, and i lived in LA. DO NOT MOVE TO THIS CITY!!!!!!!

This is what I keep telling people on this board. Albuquerque has a ton of good people, but the bad people here are overwhelming. It's as though I am walking through a prison or something with all the mean spirited thugs walking around. I like your quote about the mall. Geesh, just dare to try to look at someone in the eye when driving. You practically take your life in your own hands. Every cholo-banger with a chip on his should and his mommy walk around here in their baggy pants, driving their crappy cars, flashing their stupid gang signs and try everything in the world they can do to end your life and end up in jail.

There is something seriously wrong with our culture here in NM. People here are downright scary. I too lived in L.A. and never, ever experienced the absolute hate that I have here. Sure, there are gangs and thugs and jerks there too. But it's not everywhere there like it is here. No one here has fun. No one has sophistication. Very ugly, bitter and uneducated folk here. And they come looking to bring you down as well.

I will have to disagree with you about the city being ugly. Albuquerque is one of the most geographically beautiful cities on Earth. From the mountains to the bosque, it is a breathtaking place. Garbage? L.A. had the worst amount of litter I have ever seen. And most of the buildings here are nice, but I know what you mean. Like you said, too bad the people here ruin it.

As I said before, it must be karma. I think you and people like you walk around looking for stuff to complain about. I know people like you. And your stereotypes and generalizations reek of racism. If you and others like you aren't happy here, leave. I love New Mexico and have never had problems. But I walk around with a smile on my face and don't look at everyone as a "gangbanger" just because they wear baggie jeans. My nephew wears baggie jeans and is a full time UNM student and works 30 hours a week also.

Moderator cut: Comment removed: personal attack. Have you ever thought these people look at you the way they do because of the way YOU look at them?

Hi!
I'm new, but I read these threads while surfing the web. It's interesting how people think. LUKEACHE, hmm...you started this thread. I like the positive part, but you sound to me like you want to stir up controversy. Don't you think there's enough wickedness in the world without you adding malignant opinions. And that goes for any of you that talk negative about our state and our citizens. You know very well, if you've travelled anywhere, that we have just about everything every other state has to offer in regards to people...the good and the bad...the poor and the rich. Our state itself is totally beautiful and most of it still pristine. I've lived here all my life, born and raised a 100% New Mexican. I do have to say that the only thing I don't like is when someone new comes here and tries to make it into what they left behind. Our culture goes way back and it's here to stay. And no, our culture DOES NOT accept alcoholism and gangbanging or any other crimes as a way of life! Your way off in your statements. As far as racism...if you breed it, feed it, it won't die! You all don't be so filled with hate - life is too short and then the bill is due.
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca!

Welcome to the C-D New Mexico Forum! It's great to have a 100% New Mexican joining our group. I know you have a lot of insight to offer and I look forward to reading your posts. Your first ones are excellent, so you have set a high bar for yourself!

Lukeache is no longer posting here, so he cannot respond to any comments directed to him.

I come here from another state, and I have only been here for about six weeks, but I assure you I am committed to being a good resident of this state, and embracing the wonderful things here without trying to change it. I absolutely LOVE New Mexico, and it is very exciting to finally be here.
