Here is a map of vote percentages in New Mexico I constructed from the 2004 election:
It seems Lea County had the highest support for Bush (extreme SE New Mexico has much more in common with Texas) while Taos County seemed to have the highest support for Kerry.

LOL!!!
Well, I'll let you know after I get back from Alamogordo...I'm going in June or so to look at properties, and see if I want to settle there rather than in Farmington!
Santa Fe is the bluest of the blue, huh?? LOL!!
But what gorgeous scenery..........you can come see me for conservative politics....and I'll come visit you for the scenery.....!!
I have a feeling it is going to be Farmington, but I will check it all out to make sure!

Yes, Farmington is in San Juan county.....which is just about the riskiest county in New Mexico for DWI/DUI and higher car insurance rates because of it, LOL!!
I noticed that the house I made an offer on in Farmington...and had an inspection done....she dropped the asking price $7,000.....
Hmmmmm...LOL!!!

If you are anything at all like my relatives and friends from KS (even with respect to the fact that not every person there is staunchly conservative), you might have a hard time adjusting to the overall political attitudes in Santa Fe. I personally don't care for the city of SF itself in large part because of this reason, it's the outdoor surroundings in the area that I prefer to frequent.
On another note, having mostly grown up in NM I have noticed a strong presence of Kansans in the state, which includes my folks. I used to just think this was a coincidence, but these days I wonder if there is actually a reason for this. Maybe just the change of scenery? Able to shed any light on the matter Towanda? Not that I mind Kansans, I lived there for several years as a kid, and have a pretty profound respect for that state and people from there. Just wondering why I run into a lot of people with Jayhawks and Wildcats on their cars.

Thanks for the map and info on the counties voting percentages. Like i said Eastern NM is very conservative and closer to West Texas than Northern NM.
I'm always amazed when i go back to Alamo of all the cowboys and cowgirls all around the area. I believe Texas Govenor Perry is more popular alomg the Texas/NM border than NM Govenor Richardson......

I haven't been to Alamo since october and i'm so depressed as gotta get there soon. As soon as i hit the overpass coming in to Tularosa from Carrizozo on U.S.54 i always thank God for the safe 220 mile journey from Albuquerque and then get the biggest smile as i know i'm Home to the Tularosa Basin !!!
P.S. Love to roll down my truck window and smell the Creosote bushes that inhabit the area there as they smell like fresh rain in the desert......

Hey Andy!
I don't have the answer to the Kansas question you asked. I have never known anyone from Kansas who has moved to New Mexico.
I am not from Kansas myself. I fell in love with NM in 1970 when my husband was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in ABQ. I knew I wanted to live in the state. I was a New Yorker, and I was enchanted with the Land of Enchantment right from the beginning.
After NM, we moved to Texas, Michigan, and Kansas. I did graduate from the University of Kansas, so I am a Jayhawk for Life, and I will be bringing my Jayhawk clothes and bumper stickers, etc. with me when I move to NM.
