I do not know how rents are now but 12-13 years ago (when I was in college) we rented a 5 bedroom house near the university for $700.

Two thoughts.

If you are from one of the coasts, housing will seem very cheap in New Mexico. Somehow NM has not yet attracted the influx of people that has characterized the other southwestern states.

Craigslist, in general, does attract scams.

I have a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath house in Alamogordo that I have rented out. It is about 40 years old but very nice as it is something we intend to use ourselves later. We rent that out for $750 a month which may be a little low but we have very good renters that we hope to keep. Hope that gives you some idea of the costs. Many realtors have rentals on their web sites so that may be another resource.

No...since my mortgage in Surprise,AZ is less then that. Even my rent for a 4 bedroom home in Palmdale, Ca (Los Angles county) was $50 less then that.

When I was looking for a rental in Santa Fe and Taos I often checked craigslist, and saw half a dozen. None were scams! It is clearly the luck of the draw.

We found our casita on craigslist for $600/month..thought it was too good to be true....turns out it was legit and beautiful! Love the place and love the fact that it fits our budget! I did a lot of looking on craigslist..and observed that when the post tells you to click on a website for more information they were usually scams. Good luck with house hunting!

Thankyou but no, your house is nice, but 1500 is a lot of money when we havnt seen how our wage cut will affect us in the future after we move.

we are currently living in a 3 bedroom 3400 sq ft.large kitchen 2 living rooms a fireplace upstairs and downstairs and large family tv room /office 2 car garage on with a wrap around deck on house and a small creek all for 1200. a month on 4 acres with a greenhouse.
we are moving into a small 700.00 duplex next week, so we can sell and save $$$$ money to move.

we are selling everything and my husband will be taking a $7.00 cut in his paycheck to transfer........My wages will also go down when I transfer, we are looking for something in the $600.-$900. range
