How about Tularosa? It's less than two hours from LC, so you could check it out in half a weekend. It's a small town -- not a city and not the boonies. The two-year college in Alamogordo is less than half an hour away, and the hospital is right across the street from the campus. There's also La Luz, which is immediately north of Alamo but has sort of a rural feel. I haven't looked at real estate in these places in a while, but I'd bet they are cheap compared with LC.

I like Alamo and Tularosa too. They are family oriented, safe, the rural feeling like mentioned and just good towns to live in. I like that you can go to the mountains in a short time, or down to Las Cruces, or El Paso, for more shopping or stuff to do. It may not be up to some people's measure for urban living, but for family friendly cities, Alamogordo and Tularosa are great choices.

Wink Timberon, Here We Come!!!

Hi - depending upon what kind of people you are and the age of the children, I'd say go with Timberon... if you are rather sedentary in your life style and don't plan to retire to a life of clubbing and nightlife and your kids are soon going to enter college, put a nice house up, and put in a good computer w/internet, a good tv system, and a fireplace... a place they'll bring their friends to... and your equity will give you the resources to help financially...

photography is great up there!!

pow45, actually, my husband would love for me to say, "Timberon, here we come!!!". He loves it up there and so do our sons. Winnie, the more I think about it the more I like the idea of our kids getting a college education online. I'm going to look into Excelsior tonight, plus some other online universities I've heard about. My husband & I both attended universites aeons ago, so that's a little new for us. If our kids are able to do that online that would certainly take care of that issue of them having to leave home in order to get a college education. Of course, I know that once they're of age and should decide they want to leave anyway, well then I guess we'll have to let go, but not until I give them a "we did all this for you" guilt speech .

we relocated to Chaparral. The lots are large enough, some are 2 acres some are 8 acres. Or if you want, there are some smaller ones available. Dona ana has a community college at 404 and I 10 .Taxes are affordable. The area is still rural. Shopping is mainly in El Paso

Default Please Help

If you have a small home in Las Cruces add a room or two it will only appreciate in Value and Sold or it can be used for both parents and kids until the Kids are out of College plus it will save you all that Driving thru dangerous Weather and expenses or the kids might even want to live in the Home after you the Parents decide to Move to your other place. As For Timberon ive never been there but i think its close to Forest Fire country and wild Animals that are close by. el pintada kid

Just to add my 2 cents, as a homeschooling mom - MIT has over 1800 free online courses..taking you way over to the east coast! Enjoying reading your thread as we have a senior at home, homeschooled all the way and trying to make the right college/stay at home decisions - it .is not easy - adding to the fact that we want to move states...and need to be residents for a full year before he qualifies for instate tuition. We were also considering New Mexico State for engineering - what is the local perception of the college?
